I am just about to buy a Samsung Hard drive for an external enclosure i am thinking of getting. Before i go ahead and buy everything should i go Sata or IDE? Any benefits with either? Looking for a 300+ Hard drive. Need to store videos and pics of my baby.

I'd go SATA with an enclosure that supports eSATA - even if you don't have onboard eSATA you normally get a backplate to connect to an internal port.

At the moment there's a price gap starting to appear with IDE drives not coming down as quickly as the equivalent SATA part. Should you commit yourself to an IDE only caddy you might also find a problem in a couple of years if you need to replace the drive, IDEs might be hard to come across.

Ok, good advice. Thanks.

Still a bit unsure. My mobo takes Sata. Looking for an enclosure too. Icy-Box look great. Any recommendations?

The first one look great. What do you mean, you have to take it apart to change from sata to USB connection?
