SATA worth it?

SATA(whether 1 or 2) is at least theoretically faster than ATA hard drives, the cabling is neater as williamw11 alludes to and apart from anything else your SATA ports are otherwise doing nothing else. Also SATA is likely to remain the standard for the forseeable future meaning that it will be easier to transfer your hard drive to a new machine in the future. The only downside to them is the narrower cables are easier to pull out but this isn't much of an issue.

So a very long winded way of saying yes then. :D

...you mean people still use PATA drives :p ...haven't had one in service for years now hehe.

Yes go SATA, absolutely no good reason not too.

Well it seems that I am lucky as I haven't ever had a hd die on me.
SMART reckons my current 160 gig jobby is perfect, and I've had it years!!
It will now go in my music/gaming rig whilst my "work" pc will get a SATA jobby and also a well deserved windows re-install

Should I possibly look at SATA raid aswell???

Probably not worthwhile, it does however depend on whether you mean Raid0 or Raid1 and what your uses would be. SATA Raid will have exactly the same advantages and disadvantages as any other sort of Raid.

I take it thaty's a yes then...

*ade goes off to the MM to offer money for a s/hand SATA drive*

why buy a second hand one when SATA drives are cheap to buy new ?

SATA Raid is uber pants! its so unreliable its un-true! My friend has SATA raid and it fails on a monthly basis! If you wanna go Raid go SCSI raid!
