hi all, I'm gonna be installing a sata2 samsung spinpoint harddrive tonight as my primary drive. from what I can gather there may be issues with it being recognised with my asrock dual sata2 motherboard. I'm eager to get it up and running so if I put it on a sata port can I swap it over to sata2 later without losing any data on it. readined the sticky it seems there isn't any benefit to sata2 in real terms? should I bother with sata2?

edit. forgot to say tia

Install the SATA2 Drivers from the Mobo CD then fit the HDD and you should have no problems. No data loss will happen. I am not too sure about the benefits from Sata II but i think its something to do with transfer speed? Sata is 1.5GB p/s and Sata II is 3GB p/s ? Correct me if im wrong.

see here for all the answers to SATA II

the sata drivers need to go in when the windows install asks if there are any drivers required press F6,insert floppy made by following the instructions on the asrock site.
the selection switch on the back of the hard drive needs to be set to 3gbp/s and use the sata cable with the mobo
the bios needs to be set correctly when windows is finished installing
there is a great thread for this mobo

thanks for the replies. I sort of read the sticky so I new about the theory of the performance, I was just thinking about performance in practice.
my main question was really, if I install windows on it running in sata1 mode is it just a case of retro installing sata2 drivers then swapping the jumper on the harddrive and it will run in sata2 mode? or does sata2 mode need to be set when installing windows?
