is it true if you use the purple sockets on gigabyte s3/ds3 boards your hdd is faster ? i read it somewhere but cant find it, im using yellows, might explain why i get hdd activity slowdowns in games ?

There are no HDDs available which are bandwidth limited by any form of SATA port whether it be 150Mb/s or 300Mb/s capable.

The colour designation on the DS3 shows which ports are connected to the Intel controller (4 non RAID ports) and which are on the JMicron controller (2 RAID capable ports). There will be a slight speed difference between these due to driver differences and the physical on board connections but it'll be very slight and not noticable in normal use.

I have an S3, and all I can say is USE THE PURPLE ONES!

I noticed that my new build was feeling slow (spec in sig - no Celeron jokes please haha!), and so moved to the purple ports, and BAM! The difference was amazing.

I have no idea why, but some things are best left not looked into lol. I definitely did notice though. I'm using a Seagate 250GB SATA I drive.

Games load in about half the time - it almost seems as though the yellow ports have a sort of 'latency'

Hope you get it sorted ;)
