I've got an hitachi deskstar160gig, which I've just tweaked with the feature tool to enable sataII. Only thing is if you enable it etc then go straight back into 'Change sata settings' it still flags up as having bog standard 1.5gb sata enabled. Is there any way to find out from BIOS or XP whether or not sataII is enabled?
Cheers.

You can check in the device manager.

IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers / NVIDIA nForce4 serial ATA Controller : right click, select properties then choose primary channel tab. See the transfer mode, if it's at SATA2 it should read serial ata generation 2 - 3g.

( will be slightly different if you dont use a nforce MB )

Download and run HDTach. Run a quick test and if the burst is over 150MB/s, then it is running SATA-II. I think I covered this in my sticky (top of HDU forum).

i wanted to know this too but i cant see that in my device manager :S i must admit, before i formatted my sata-II drive was always showing as a removable device. Now ive formatted again it doesnt.

Yeah, mine's doing that. It thinks the hdd is removable. I'm sure it's got something to do with whether or not you set plugnplay to o/s or BIOS when you first set up. Out of interest I did click on remove device (I pressed it very quickly & with my eyes shut), but it obviously didn't remove it. Hmm..
