Technically it is against the rules.

Rules state, cars must form up in line behind the safety car.

There is nothing that states they are allowed to be alongside.

Yeah I think anyone already on the hards got screwed, as the mediums would unlikely have been competitive to the end of the race.

He was looking strong. As it stands he’s going to lose a stack of places when he pits. The merc looks much more stable on lower fuel. He may still be able to claw back some places if the hards drop off.

Hamilton has just shown that the others can get to the end on these tyres.

After helping Verstappen out by blocking the car that should have been behind. Should have been switched behind the safety car.

If it was against the rules then there would have been penalties in many many previous races. You can be alongside as we've seen so you're just making stuff up again.

If he pits soon, he'll end up around Hulk/Stroll area, but on the medium tyre instead of the hard.

They've gambled on a second safety car appearing - if it doesn't come, it'll dump him backwards massively but if it does he'll be up there competing for Top 6 again because virtually everyone will stop again.

That happens when you remove all the cool stuff like re-fuelling, engines running on the ragged edge etc. Also now Mazepin is gone we are only guaranteed one safety car a race now with Latifi.

The first 1/3 of the race was pretty good, utterly dull right now though. Without another VSC / SC, a boring end to the race is coming I think

Yeah he's probably waiting and hoping for a safety car/red flag. Theres just no significant gaps behind him, he'll be entering into/behind a train, granted he'll have a faster car but I dont think he'll find it easy enough to find his way back to where he is now, its gonna be brutal. Could make an interesting end to the race though.
