Playground beating posted on web

Video images of an 11-year-old boy being beaten by an older pupil in a school playground in County Antrim have been posted on the internet.

A pupil was arrested and released on bail in connection with the incident.

The footage, recorded on a mobile phone, shows the boy being kicked and punched by a pupil wearing a PE kit while onlookers swear at him.

A police spokesperson has confirmed that an investigation into the incident is under way.

The boy's mother told the BBC's Nolan Show on Wednesday that she had received the video on her mobile phone from the parent of another pupil who had arrived home with it.

"The parent begged me not to take it because he said I would be very upset by it," she said.

"I gave it to my husband, and through all the crying I was able to get him to come to me and take the phone.

"Both of us were broken by what we saw - it was like a vicious dog fight, although I think it was worse because of what he went through.

"My son was on the ground and this guy was kicking and kicking and the kids were screaming in a circle round him, screaming: 'Kick him in the head, kick him in the head'.

"This boy had football boots on his feet. Whenever my wee boy thought it was all over, you can actually see him turning round to see where the wee lad went and the next thing was there were more chants of 'kick him in the head'.

"He went in again, pull him down by the hair - kicking and kicking and kicking at him."

'Earlier altercation'

The woman said her son had bruises all over his body and had simply "been battered".

The young schoolboy is now afraid to return to school following the attack.

His mother said she did not only blame the attacker, but those who were standing around encouraging him to beat the boy.

On the clip, several other pupils can be heard shouting: "Hit him in the face" and "jump on his ****ing head".

In a statement, the PSNI said the attack was reported to police on 19 January.

"A male juvenile has been arrested and released on bail, pending further enquiries. The police investigation is ongoing," said a spokesman.

:( One positive thing is that the video can be used as evidence if the boys face is clearly shown on it.

Id love to go and kick the crap out of any kids that beat up smaller kids.....

On the basis that you'll be bigger than the ones picking on the smaller kids? Nice logic.

My younger bro once got into a massive fight at school simply because he stuck up for someone much younger.

Turned quite violent and he had a bruised eye and a fractured wrist, And just for the record he was and still is a Hench lad, he goes to the gym everyday and talking to him the other day he is benching 200lbs

Anyway after hearing this i decided i would go and kick the crap out of this little rodent but my older sister told me to leave it and that if i did anything it owuld be me getting in trouble...... Anyway we found out that most of the kids involved all fancied my older sister Lisa so she went into the school and screamed at them in front of their parents, needless to say they all apolagised soon after.

This however is a new level this buy is 11 years old? how can anyone older bring them selves to beat up a 11 year old?

disgusting, As a father, i'm not sure if I would be capable of stopping myself from giving the attacker a beating of a life time.

IMO the school should also be accountable for this incident as well as the bully and anyone else seen to be chanting.

I have a younger brother who is 10 and I would be going mental if it was him. It must be much worse being an actual parent though. :(

No question about it the kid needs a ******* good beating for doing that .

He wont get it, nothing will happen. The media will lose interest and the pressure will be gone and nothing at all will happen.
He'll keep doing these things his whole life.
Hell, the victim will probably be charged for damaging the assailants football boots.

the way the parent keeps saying a "guy" was kicking him doesnt even make me thin it was a kid ? does it say the age anywhere

It said the guy was another pupil, so he could be any age up to 18 I suppose.

Am I the only one who got and gave beatings when I was in school? Anyone would think that kids never get into fight unless its "bullies" or "racism". The fact of the matter is that kids fight and are cruel, and it has nothing to do with being a bully or a racist. The only thing society can do is put the fear of god into kids that if they are caught, they will be beaten even worse by their headmaster, but unfortunately that isnt an option now so kids run wild with no restriction.

Stamping on someones head repeatly goes beyond a childish beating. And it was certainly bullying.

Er, what do you think kids do when they are angry and the adreniline is pumping? Poke each other? Kids are vicious for crying out loud! No beating I ever got was a walk in the park, but that is the nature of life! Deal with it!

It's like we're living in la la land!

I think it is a human instinct. Watch most street fights or brawl, once someone is down others go for the head... :(
