Save me some time and recommend a PSU for £70

As title says, I don't mind buying second hand from MM either.

I'm gonna be running a i5 2500K+ @ 4GHz with a 5850, possibly two. All I have right now is an old Corsair VX550W.

The VX550W will be fine for 1 HD 5850. 2 would be right on the limit I wouldn't.

If you want more power you'd be better off selling the HD5850 and putting proceeds from that+ £70 + what ever you were paying for the 2nd HD 5850 into a new card like a HD 7850 or HD 7870.

VX550 W would run a HD 7850 or HD 7870 easily.

First off check your mobo does SLI/Xfire properly. If the PCI-Express lanes aren't sync'd (X8 & X8) then using two cards is pointless really.

Is there something wrong with the PSU you have? If not I'd look to buy an SSD instead to be quite honest. 500W is ample for a single GPU setup :)

Thanks all, looks like I may be spending the money on an SSD or something instead. Bit confused by people saying ditch the 5850 for a 7850, they're about the same @ equal clocks from what I can see.

Not really bud. It's better than a 6850, close to a 6870 (link). You can change the search criteria in the link to compare the 7850. It's the 2GB of VRAM on the 7850 that would make the difference and they overclock really well :) I have a heavily OC'd 1GB 460 which is probably on par with you, I still find it capable for now (I switch off AA). The new drivers from AMD and Nvidia have given these old cards a nice little boost :)
