Hi,

We have been checking out our b-grade section and it seems there are a lot of products where people can grab a real bargain as most products just have a damaged box.

All hard drives are products that have been either returned from manufacturer repaired or returned as unwanted after a few minutes of use from customers. All hard drives are in fully working order and formatted of data.

hard drives and ssd's here

coolers are a little different than hard drives in that they will all have the mounting parts for the cooler but could have no box/manual or it could just be that the box is damaged. the coolers will have all parts required for you to install and use.

coolers here

fans here

laptops are mainly unwanted returns and the customer has just changed there mind and decided that they have spent to much money and need it for other things. they all come factory reset and have the power adaptors to use them. the boxes maybe damaged but they are all functional as intended.

laptops here

water cooling clearance is a mixture of both new parts and b-grade. if the item is b-grade it will say in the title. take a look and you maybe able to combine parts in order to get your pc cool this summer. b-grade items are as normal they will have the parts to mount and fit but may have open packaging or damaged packaging.

water cooling here

a few items listed below any questions i will be happy to help. low quantities on all items in clearance.

quick question in relation to the hdd/ssd's is there any way for the customer to know which of the below is the case?
returned from manufacturer repaired or returned as unwanted after a few minutes of use from customers

reason i ask is, how does the former (returned from manufacturer repaired) affect the manufacturers warranty? does it just continue as normal - i know OcUK only offer 90 days on B-Grade but the manufacturers warranty should still be in place?

Apologies for the delay in reply I'm awaiting confirmation from Seagate. I believe it should be the normal warranty but I would like to give you the correct information. I will get back shortly.

The BeQuiet AIO, you're basically sacrificing the full warranty to save 20 quid? That doesn't quite seem worth it to me!

I can attest to the quality though, have a 240mm and it's fantastic

I had the 120mm version, it started making a horrendous noise after 2 months. Opened it up and lots of little metallic flakes leaked out with the fluid. I'm sure the overall quality is fine but I still wouldn't trust an AIO with a 90 day warranty!

After speaking with Seagate we go the following:

If you RMA and get a refurb you only get the balance of the warranty back.

E.g. RMA within 6 months, get your refurb, 18 months left.

So the hard drives in B-grade has a minimum of 3 months as standard but could have a lot of remaining warranty.

They are going to be a mixture of unwanted returns which will have a decent warranty and warranty repaired sorry we can be much more accurate.

cheers for that - was as i thought.
so there's no way as a second hand purchaser to know what the warranty situation is like, could have a decent amount, could have next to sod all. even if there is warranty, outside of the 3 months, there's no way to know if the manfucaturer will accept a 'second' owner warranty claim should the need arise.

that said, decent savings to be had, just a matter of weighing up if they are worth it over new.

Cheers again for checking.

So I have just picked myself up a Samsung 850 Evo (500gb) from the clearance pages.

Following the above conversation, Samsung show a 5 year / total writes count...
With that in mind am I correct in presuming that if the drive is already a year old and the data is below the threshold that I would still have 4 years warranty left?

I'm not hugely worried and preferred the cost saving as this will only be used for game storage.

Why say 2 year warranty here when it is only actually 90 days? Nobody will spend £1500 quid for 3 month warranty. Or if they do they're not realizing.

Why do OCUK have so little faith in B grade items? Why does a ripped box for example take the warranty away?

Hi,

At the moment it is a limitation of the system. B-Grade items are checked before they are added to the clearance section. The 3 Month warranty is because we cannot control how long a product will be on the shelf and the warranty may expire. The 3 months warranty is something we cover even if the product is out of it's manufacturer warranty.

MSI laptops that are on B-Grade are sent with a 1 year manufacturer extended warranty so as long as you register the laptop within 28 days of purchase then you get a minimum of 12 months.

Still waiting on ASUS.

OcUK’s ‘warranty’ is in addition to your legal rights.

The B-grade format predates the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and really seems to have been a reaction to the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations 2000 where a customer could legitimately order an item, open it, decide they didn’t like it or that it was defective in some small way and send it back. Those returns, some of them genuinely missing items, some with items purloined by the ‘customer’ could be sold as effectively ‘used’ parts but in excellent condition. Basically, it was primarily a way of recovering value from returns. And there were also a lot of warranty return parts in there as well.

The Consumer Rights Acts changed a lot of things about how items were described. I think most people know about the extra rights you get when you buy a used car for example. While the original concept of ‘Buyer Beware’ still exists, a lot more emphasis has been put on the seller to describe the item for sale openly and honestly, declaring any known faults and actually having to be liable for rectifying those faults after the sale even if they didn’t know about them when the item was sold.

So your No. 1 Line of defence is always the DSR. When you receive your B-grade item, if it’s not as they described it, send it back.

Then, if you find it defective, send it back. The question you should always ask yourself is “if I bought this used from eBay would I expect this level of service from the seller?” If the answer is ‘yes’ then you’d expect that from OcUK. If the answer is ‘no‘ then you bought a used part that went bad and you now have a paperweight.
