Saving Xp after format

Hey guys, i have jjust installed a new oem copy of media center 2005, i have fully updated it and its running fine at the mo but if i need to format i dont want to buy another copy of windows and i wont be able to use the same key again, how do you save the windows registration details and stuff so i dont have any problems in the future.

Please help

don't know where you got that idea from. you can re-install whenever you like with the same key. :)

even with major hardware changes you can continue to use the same copy - you might need to re-activate, either online or over the phone. the only exception is if you get a new motherboard - then you're supposed to buy a new copy.
 
thats probably why my old key didnt work, i did hear on these forums that u could save the data so u would not need to reactivate, i could be wrong tho.

anyone else have any input .
 
thanks for the input guys, i have found out that windows saves a file in ure windows folders that can be saved so u can re use ure oem version over and over
 
you can use rockxp4 to backup your activation files

personally, i'd just use acronis true image to keep a full backup of your system now

you can keep it on a dvdr or a 2nd hard drive (it'll be saved as 1x file), and you can restore it using the acronis boot disc

takes about 2-3 mins to restore a basic xp backup :)
