Say NO to windows 10 because of this ...

Rofl.
Your links don't work.

I hope you aren't using any Microsoft things then, as it's a Microsoft wide policy. I hope you aren't using Facebook, Google or well anything else.

It's been blown out of proportion as windows 10 is doing well and car wrecks sell more papers, so they're trying to push the bad angle which isn't there.
don't see people complaining about Google doing personalised adds by default.

How do you thing Cortana can do appointments, track packages, track flights and holidays etc without reading emails and calendars.

Ooo, looks like Microsoft has sabotaged your links!
I think you'll find that their privacy policy covers all of Microsoft platforms and not just Windows 10, so will cover Xbox Live too if you've got one.

Saying you're avoiding one Microsoft product but sticking with another doesn't really change anything. For instance, when you install something - when they show you their long list of Terms and Conditions. Do you ever honestly read it right through or do you simply just tick Agree and install?

Personally speaking I give facebook and google very little information. I don't use my real name and all my accounts are not linked. Windows phone has most of the same settings and I turn all that off also. Ok I lose a bit of functionality but I don't really need the same wallpaper on all my devices thank you. You can't stop them tracking your browsing history without losing a lot functionality. Though many in my work place hide their IP and have all auto login's and histories turned off.

But as you say a lot of these is common to all internet use regardless of OS so its not a Windows 10 issue specifically.

The only thing I'm concerned about in Windows 10 is the keylogger they were using in the preview. I don't know if they've turned that off in the retail release.

Lol the tin foil hat wearing head slappers all over the net are amusing me.

All it does is highlight their complete ignorance at just how much of their information is stored by systems and organisations already if they think this is new.

So you dont use Gmail where it reads your emails and you can't turn it off?

I use gmail for some things and not for others Mainly trivial stuff. The whole tag and query model works fine for some things not for others. If you are happy with computers managing everything for you thats fine. But if you don't want someone you ordered a bad pizza from being in your facebook contacts and viber address book, you need to manage it. Likewise if you want to stand up in a business meeting and know everyone in the room has checked out your linked in profile, and facebook photos of your last lads out. You need to know how to manage all these settings.

Some censorship going on since the links were taken down...Fishy to say the least

The powers that be don't want a mass rejection of this type of privacy breach. The more data they can collect the more they can keep an eye on everyone.

Problem with a lot of the web articles on W10 privacy are pretty poorly written. Most of them are not written by technical people so they are techno babble. There are features you may or many not like. Its up to people to learn how to use these features and technology. If you don't like it, don't use them. Simple as that.

Windows 10 doesn't do anything that isn't already present in existing Microsoft, Google or Apple products.

It's a sign of the times. If you genuinely want to keep -everything- you do private, you have to give up all the comforts of modern society.

I do think the OP may have a point. I have installed W10 and spent ages switching off just about everything - no syncing, using a local account, no apps access etc. etc.

It may well be the price we have to pay for living in a connected world but where there is an option to opt out then that is what I do.

I do have a smartphone, tablet etc. However, I do not see the need for all this connection and syncing with other devices on a Desktop computer.

What they said. What is it with people believing too much of the rubbish they read, usually about something new that's just out but is really doing nothing new but people go hell bent on it.

Please enlighten me.

I do think it's scary just how accepting and trusting this present generation are of authority and the way one's information is constantly harvested.

I don't even provide my mobile number to people unless I consider they have a very good reason for wanting it. Where possible I provide as little information as possible.
