Saying things before thinking..!!

I’ve really got to stop this, but I don’t know how I can…. I’m not amazingly intelligent, but I’m not stupid, however I do open my mouth before I’ve engaged my brain and say the most stupidest of things..

I also blurt out hurtful comments, and seem to spend more time afterwards apologising and then I feel bad afterwards…!!

I’m always being told - one day my mouth will land me in deep trouble….. Only last night I spent the evening apologising to a friend after I made a comment that was meant in jest but just came out all wrong and hurtful….. Surprised if she thinks of me in the same way again..!!

You should add 'Thinking before you start new threads' to your list of resolutions as well.

I have a tendency to say what everyone else is thinking but know they shouldn't say it.

I have actually said to a guy who was fitting a boiler at our old house "I don't care if you have got cancer, I have a piece of paper that says you will finish today mate"

Oh the look on his face!

Try to take a second to consider your answer before you make it. Try and see how what you say will affect others. Make the effort of not answering right away.

i just have a tendency to say jokes that to me sound funny but in reality there really not, always gets a "oook" or "eh?" look from other people

Once said to my own mum when she was concerned about how she looked, and asked me if something she was wearing made her look overweight… I just replied, nah, its your body that does that, not your clothes…

Also told my best mate once that he’s two faced, and sits on his best one…!!

Also told a date to not stand me up, to which she was deeply offended, I meant it in a way of joking but it didn’t come across like that….

I could go one, but you get the point….

Just sound like jokes that people take the wrong way.

I have a habit of saying things like that, but on purpose, or just twisting people's words slightly, amuses people and irritates others.

The guy was a tool, he drilled into the new 1 inch live gas feed, it wasn't as though he didn't know it was there, he had just fitted it.

Do you tend to say these things one to one with people or when there is a group of you together?

If it is only when there is a group then the answer is probably to stop trying so hard to impress those around you. It's likely these cutting comments are atempts at humour that go wrong.

How could you forget about a gas feed that you'd installed yourself? No wonder you blurted out your comment, I'd had done the same...

Anyhow, yep, mostly it is me trying to be funny, and making jokes. I guess the humour is being missed...

I also have a tendency to annoy... Mostly on this forum..

edit - oh and its in groups or even one on one.... Doesn't seem to matter, I just do it... without thinking.

In the past, I've been advised that I should be more "politically correct" in the way I speak! Let's just say that my response wasn't worded in the manner that they advised.

One of my friends managed to chisel straight through someones gas pipe, then did it again the next day after the company had spent all the previous evening fixing it. You'd think he'd of noticed the big plaster patch! Needless to say he was let go.

Like the others have said though, it's just taking that extra split second to think it through. Either that or work on your delivery of these quips

I said to a women once in work that i know, "how old are you" and she goes to me " you shouldnt ask a woman that its rude" to which i aploligise and said "yeah your right im sorry....how much do you weigh" :eek:

i ran for cover.

That does sound familier.... I've been told 'quite' a few times that I ought to really watch what I say...

Was told that how I speak to some is 'erm' refreshing at times..!! Sure there was a joke or jibe in that statement somewhere.....
