SC2 UK eSports

If you want to make a big entry into the UK scene then really you should only be looking at players from Dignitas. They're the only UK-based team that do well in any form of eSports these days - a lot of the "old" big teams have since died off or moved into mainland Europe which is where the real competition lies. The UK still has some good players in it, but against euro's, they struggle to be completely honest.

I'd suggest doing some research on some of the generic UK leagues (theSGL, Enemy Down, etc) and seeing what the user base is like. I know a lot of people that play SC2, both as individuals and as teams, but they all have one thing in common - they play casual.

SC2 has huge coverage worldwide, only a fool would deny that, but here in the UK the entire competitive scene has taken a huge step back and is incredibly lazy ever since the "modern consoles" have come about and taken hold. That's true for many games, not just SC2. That's not a jab at consoles at all, but it is the truth. The best example would be the CS and CS:S scenes. The UK have always had big names in CS, such as Dignitas and 4Kings, that had global recognition. The same could be said for CS:S. In fact you could easily argue that the UK produced some of the most talented and skilled CS:S players (not CS though, that game was ravaged by the Swedes...) and they still play to this day; but the "new" generation of gamers, the "post-pro era" kids that were too young to understand what real competitive gaming was, are simply too busy insulting each other and starting fights to actually get anywhere.

It would be great if you could get a big UK scene going again, in fact I would welcome it with open arms (and I'm not even a great fan of SC2, but can certainly appreciate the skill and dedication it takes), but I honestly think you're starting an uphill battle...

Totally agree, its going to be a very uphill battle, and we know that. But if we don't try and do something then how will we get out of the console kiddies era that has swept the UK eSports scene?

We're intending to cover the EU scene as our primary demographic and the UK as our focus for promotion, so with any luck we can at least kick the snowball a little further along the plateau its stuck on right now.

We've already got a lot of support from people with your mindset as well, that would love to watch these events even if they don't really have an SC2 focus or interest, simply because the UK/EU scene is pretty dead comparatively right now.

Thanks for the support anyway, hopefully we can achieve some of our goals and get the ball rolling even just a little! :)

Doesn't seem to be working, maybe he needs to upgrade his flames and harass me a bit?

I suggest a full mech switch to be fully effective against the hivemind.

XD

If you need any help with anything then let me know Xs, I have a lot of spare time and I'm a devoted SC2 player even though i'm not that good.

I and a few other friends always keep up to date on sc2, we're not brilliant players but are going to start getting into it.

I personally subscribe to all the usual tournaments like ESL, MLG, GSL etc etc and I've never actually played an official 1v1 since getting sc2 on release, I just love watching it, though I imagine this will soon change!

We're also hoping to attend a Barcraft in Bristol if it goes ahead which should be good fun!

As well as talking to people on TL if you join the in game chat Channel "UK" there are quite a few people in their 60+ and a clan called team-GG http://team-gg.com/

Also love to see that someone is trying to make something of what there is of a UK scene, as for making a show, it really doesn't matter about the other shows out there, and as long as the show is good people will want to watch.

There is not much player wise but I think there is a basic fan base but not much else :( would be better if it grew. I really only watch SC2 myself mainly streams like white-Ra's

The players are definitely there, but not so many pros here to follow - BUT no reason why we need british pros to follow anyway.

I think we need more barcrafts, as in - more locations - rather than more often.

Other than that, I'm not sure what you could do that's not already covered.

edit: quite a lot of people don't like the ladder, but do want familiar/regular play - perhaps a community for those people to find casual custom games.

We already have a small community of casual custom gamers, as we have a fairly big LoL community surrounding the radio itself, but I've found people who don't like the ladder tend to just not like losing, so they end up not playing the game anyway unfortunately :(

This! No one likes losing and it hurts even more in sc2 because there is no one else to blame but yourself. :D

I'd love to see the UK SC2 scene grow. I watch a lot of tournament play via the interwebz and it'd be nice to have something closer to home so I could go in person to watch :)

Hopefully we can do that for you so you can walk off to see the latest match!

When a UK player becomes skilled enough to compete, he stops practicing with UK players and instead practices with foreign talent.

A common thing among top players across Europe and the world is that they will only practice with other players with similar skill.
