If you want to make a big entry into the UK scene then really you should only be looking at players from Dignitas. They're the only UK-based team that do well in any form of eSports these days - a lot of the "old" big teams have since died off or moved into mainland Europe which is where the real competition lies. The UK still has some good players in it, but against euro's, they struggle to be completely honest.
I'd suggest doing some research on some of the generic UK leagues (theSGL, Enemy Down, etc) and seeing what the user base is like. I know a lot of people that play SC2, both as individuals and as teams, but they all have one thing in common - they play casual.
SC2 has huge coverage worldwide, only a fool would deny that, but here in the UK the entire competitive scene has taken a huge step back and is incredibly lazy ever since the "modern consoles" have come about and taken hold. That's true for many games, not just SC2. That's not a jab at consoles at all, but it is the truth. The best example would be the CS and CS:S scenes. The UK have always had big names in CS, such as Dignitas and 4Kings, that had global recognition. The same could be said for CS:S. In fact you could easily argue that the UK produced some of the most talented and skilled CS:S players (not CS though, that game was ravaged by the Swedes...) and they still play to this day; but the "new" generation of gamers, the "post-pro era" kids that were too young to understand what real competitive gaming was, are simply too busy insulting each other and starting fights to actually get anywhere.
It would be great if you could get a big UK scene going again, in fact I would welcome it with open arms (and I'm not even a great fan of SC2, but can certainly appreciate the skill and dedication it takes), but I honestly think you're starting an uphill battle...
