Below is an example of what i am interested in getting. I'd like some advice or comments from people who have had it done. :)

I've done a bit of research and discovered that oily hair and touching the piercing increases the risk of infection but that is all i really know apart from i am aware it is quite painful.

I know a fair few people have it done and it's constantly getting gunky and smelly. Although any cartilage piercings will do that :)

If you take care of it you'll be fine!

A girl friend of mine has had that done.

She said it was it wasn't that painful, hers isn't infected or anything.

Personally i think it looks a bit stupid...But if you like it, go for it!

Mm, i am aware that it pierces the cartilage...hence the pain i believe. I love the look of it, always have done but obviously i need to check with work first as i have a feeling they won't like it. :o

int: Gunky and smelly? Eeek. :(

Only if you're a dirty ****ing skank who doesn't wash...

SideWinder - get it done by someone who has a portfolio full of well healed AND well pierced industrial work. Get it done as two separate piercings and once fully healed (6-8 months), you can swap to a custom-bent and sized bar. This ensures that both holes are at 90 degrees to the tissue and that the final bar doesn't put ANY pressure on the piercings - the two things which ruin any industrial work if not done properly.

I'm going to http://www.punktured.co.uk/ in Brighton - very well established with experienced piercers...i had a lovely experience with them when i got my lip pierced and they were friendly and certainly seemed to know their stuff. Plus all the staff had at least 20+ piercings!:)

Okay so i guess the best plan of action would be to ask for their most experienced industrial piercer or go further?

I don't fully understand the 'two seperate piercings and once fully...' bit. How exactly is the scaffolding done? One piercing straight through or two seperate ones? Perhaps you can re-word it. :o

I'm always jealous of this type of thing, ear cuffs etc. as my ears don't curl over around the edges. In fact they are slightly frilly and my right ear looks like someone has taken a bite out of the top! :D

Aww! Nev? :)

I was planning on getting this done but...I.... Um chickened out and only got the lower piercing done :(

Would love to go and get the upper bit done at some point though but I don't think the first one healed right so would have to get it done in the other ear!

Mine was done as two separate piercings and fully healed, then fitted with the bar.

It wasn't uncomfortable 95% of the time, but when I wore a hat all day it would make it hurt.

The pain of the piercings is fine, completely bearable. It's quite painful as piercings go, but it's nothing you won't be able to do with. It hurts, then it goes hot, then it just throbs a bit for a couple of days.

Just so i 100% understand....

There are 2 ways of having this done? Your way was just the piercing and fitted with something else (like a stud) and then the bar added how much longer after?

Other way is 'everything fitted' right away?

There's three ways I can think of off the top of my head.

1) Pierce both holes, bang a metal bar between them, it'll hurt, it'll take forever to heal, it has a much bigger chance of just never properly healing, getting infected, rejecting, or just hurting so much you get the arseache with it and take it out.

2) Pierce both holes, put separate jewellery in them, wait til a few months down the line when they're healed (cartilidge piercings take ****ing ages to really heal), then put a metal bar of the correct length and bend (if necessary) in. This imo is the best way by far.

3) Pierce both holes, fit a flexible plastic bar between them while they heal, then replace with a metal one when they're done. I can see the merit of this one as the plastic bar will help the piercings be properly 'aligned', but I still think the second way I've listed is the best. A good piercer will get them pretty much bang on angle wise anyways.

Lots of useful information, thankyou Mohinder! :)
I think what i will do is pop along and ask them for their advice...i like the idea of the 3rd one to be honest so i would really like to know why you believe the 2nd method is the better one? Is it because it is less restrained so less pressure?

Exactly, they should be left to heal separately, linking them together slows down and harms the healing process because the fresh open wound in your ear is being tugged around, it's not good for it. I seriously would recommend having them done separately. Once they're healed, they're healed, it's worth the wait to have a piercing you know will last as long as you want to keep it, as opposed to rushing the healing process, then having to remove it six months or a year later.

yeah, don't put the bar straight through and expect it to heal. It'll take you a month to figure out it's not working even though your piercer said it would.

Only trouble with option two is during both of them healing separately you could end up with slight off angles, making the chances of more damage being caused when you put the bar across.
