scale of the Universe 2010 - onemorelevel

Nice, I've seen video's of stuff like this before, but this is neat and really well done. It's crazy how Canis Majoris could nearly consume our solar system in it's mass...

How many of you searched for the Japanese Spider Crab?

'The Japanese spider crab has the greatest leg span of any arthropod, reaching 3.8 metres (12 ft) from claw to claw. The body may grow to a size of 40 centimetres or 16 inches (carapace width) and the whole crab can weigh up to 41 pounds (19 kg)'

Wow really nice. Leaves you awed and feeling insignificant.

Puts things into perspective - specially how our species spends 99% of its time butchering each other and the planet. And this little blue ball is all we got.

Pretty amazing really. When I look at this I think, how can there possibly not be life elsewhere in the universe? Theres got to be aliens out there in one of those galaxies. I remember Carl Sagan once said 'there are more galaxies in the Universe than their are grains of sand on planet Earth', that just blows me away.

Even though everyday stuff can be so petty in relation to the size of the Universe, I still think that the Earth is a frontier of some kind because of that awareness we have of our place in the universe. Its easily forgotten though, what with all the small things that take up our attention.

There is a powerful argument for exploring the Universe to find out what is out there and how we came into existence. I would say thats as significant a responsibility for mankind as it is to protect the planet and foster that universal awareness in all human beings.

Distance between the moon and earth compared with the distance to the nearest star makes me sad, one day?

The sky calls to us. If we do not destroy ourselves, we will one day venture to the stars.
