scale of the Universe 2010 - onemorelevel

imagine if you opened up a neutrino and find another universe and it just starts all over again back down to the next neutrino and into the next universe to infinity

Pretty much the same as the first one but a bit more interactive. Still, does a good job. It never fails to amaze me how small the micro/nano/pico/quantum world is relative to humanscale. We are galaxy sized compared to some of the small things that exist or are theorised.

Who knows. In 30 years time for example, someone might develop something that can make humans live forever. Maybe. :p

Interesting topic. If you could find a way to stop Telomeres from shortening, possibly through the use of Telomerase, then you could increase the theoretical maximum lifespan almost infinitely. But the longer someone lives, the greater the possibility they will contract cancer, since it's to do with DNA mutations and the countermeasures in place to regulate cell division it all comes down to probability. There's nanobots that could supplement your immune system and possibly even search for cancerous cells, but they're a long way off.

I haven't seen any basis to these claims of 'resetting your age' to when you were 20 or so... yet. But if we do get to the point where a person can live even twice as long then we need to live those lives with considerably different attitudes. Not just to each other, but to reproduction. If we don't then no question about it, we will destroy ourselves.

That's so cool!

No sense of illness here... what's wrong with you people!

And to think, the unobservable universe is just some giant beings stomach. Psht.

I saw that onemorelevel link yesterday (frequent visitor of the site), and I thought it was very interesting, really puts some things into perspective. They should make a similar one that keeps the same scale but slides back in time, it could show not only human evolution (from what we currently understand about it) but also how the continents shifted and the world was formed, all the way back to the big bang.

Things like that make me glad I'm studying Astrophysics :D. Although... the amount I actually understand (as opposed to know) about the universe is still minuscule. It'd be great to get out there and "boldly go...etc." but there is just no political will. And yes, the barrier is political not financial and not technical.

If only I was supreme world emperor, I would order a huge generation ship constructed with nuclear pusher plates on the back :)

That would be good actually.

And to think there are still people out there who believe there is no other life.

I really wish everyone would stop blowing each other up, we could then go and explore the galaxy!
