Scaling windows help

Does anyone know if you can click through and interact with individual windows whilst scaled (compiz or alternative) ? I use scale a lot but would like to click through.

Looking for alternatives or ideas

I'm confused, although at a guess i'd say that this is a way of switching windows? And what you want to do is use the windows while they're like that? If that's the case then what you want to look into is tiling.

Sort of.... When scaled all the windows are live so you can see all the windows in realtime. ie video is playing, htop or dstat running in the terminals can be clearly seen updating.

Problem is that say I want to update a new url or tab in the browser, then as you suggest I would have to click on the browser and bring it into focus (ie switch to the app) before typing in the new url.

Ideally I would like the app to remain scaled when doing that... so your suggestion of tiling is what I really want. Now this begs me to ask if I can continue with compiz or do I need a tiling desktop manager and if so which one ?

A quick google suggests that there's a plugin called Grid that you could enable, that would tile windows with keyboard shortcuts.

Thanks.... just tried it ... all it does is to resize the window into a grid instead of scaling into a grid

I'm not sure what you mean? Are you talking about it actually filling up the whole screen? That's good, you have less 'dead space'.

A resize means exactly that .... If you have an app that has been maximized like for example the browser window in the screen grab above and you simply resize it, all you're doing is making the windows frame smaller instead of zooming out ie you get scroll bars galore
