Is there anything we can do to stop these parasites from doing what they do? I guess the only solution really is to flood the market with stock so they physically don't have enough resources to purchase everything but from a retailer's point of view that's rather risky, and that's not even considering the supply chain problems we're facing or the fact that some items are just generally meant to be limited.

I get the whole "capitalism lol" thing but it's getting a bit ridiculous, I buy my wife a Harrods Christmas bear every year as a tradition, these are usually £30 a pop but are all sold out at Harrods but they're on Ebay starting at £72.

This particular seller has already sold 28 of them and still has "more than 10 available". That's already £1176 profit with more stock to go. That's one product. These people obviously make quite a bit of money depriving others from the items they want or making people spend ridiculous amounts of money for what amounts to nothing more than sheer greed.

Will we ever see an end to this? I'm just annoyed that I will be having to pay one of these utter cretins more than what I want to be able to maintain a tradition.

Whinge over

I hate them too and would not buy from them, I rather wait. I see and understand the argument but one thing you would not get and the scalpers cannot retort from is offering the same warranty and customer support of a retailer.

If the scalper will do the same no quibble money back and warranty support or legal recourse that a commercial retailer are obliged to do, as opposed to a private sale. I would have less of a problem. But they do not. Yes I know a lot of warranties are tied to the product and not the seller but some are not. It also does not answer my problem with the difference between a commercial vs private sale from a Sales of Goods Act point of view.

Tragedy of the commons unfortunately, there will always be a sad little market of FOMO afflicted individuals thinking paying 200% RRP is an intelligent decision instead of being patient.

As such it may be that normal people will be forced to get their own bots to compete, perhaps when storefronts are being DDOS'd on a daily basis with N*1000 'customers' they might start thinking about a solution.

That said I think the issue might be overblown and the real problem is just the inability to supply enough units to satisfy demand.

I feel your pain bro, my Gucci belt cost twice as much this year because of this, might have to downgrade to a Harrods belt next year if it continues.

Can you not buy from eBay then file a not as advertised return and send a scabby teddy back in the box, eBay always side with the buyer if the posts in GD are to be believed?

Scam the scalpers

I'd imagine companies who sell them could stop the scalpers.

if someone is buying a top end gpu every week they probably aren't using it for themselves

ration them with ID checks or something drastic

assuming scalpers are "retail customers"

I suspect that with people getting a taste for it from the Xbox and PS5 release, as well as GPUs etc, it's here to stay. Not that it wasn't a thing before of course, but far more people are aware of it now and will be more keen to profit from it given how easy it is and how the demand is seemingly still strong.

I'd never, ever buy from one but clearly other people are more easily swayed.

If companies give a single **** they could stop this. Fundamentally a scalpers money is as good as anyones and the fact they order 10 PS5s just makes it easier for the retailers. Only one person to deliver to.

Sorry but you've really just answered your own question.

If this was essential i could completely sympathise, but it doesn't appear to be.

Why is this £450, and why is it sold out!?

This 100%, it's a retailers dream, sell all the stock they can make, and as a bonus no warranty to honour.

It's nice to see a load of xbox series x have become available with various retailers at rrp, and haven't immediately sold out. It's almost as if stock was being held back ready for Xmas, possibly to teach scalpers a lesson. I imagine there are a few people with garages full who won't be having such a merry Xmas this year.
