Weeding out the scammers is part and parcel of using Gumtree. Still a fantastic way of selling things though.

A scam? On Gumtree? Send me 50 thousand million dollars and I'll fix it.

or you could send em the money and I will send you the deeds to my uncles oil reserves in Nigeria and a complimentary packet of tablets that will be for giving you a larger penis...............

I am forever in Gumtree's debt. It's enabled me to get two absolutely brilliant part time jobs while at uni, which are head and shoulders ahead of any bloody retail work!

This scam has been going for a while. The person(s) doing it have a string of aliases and the police couldn't give a crap about it.

I replied to a 'too good to be true' ad for a PC and as soon as they said something about posting it, I did an immediate google of their name/email/telephone and found a massive thread full of people who'd been scammed.

As said, if it ain't cash on collection, don't bother with gumtree.
While I do have sympathy for scam victims, I really do have to question the level of common sense.

Since then, I've noticed that many scam ads are hilariously easy to spot. I entertain myself on occasion by sending them f'd up emails. Sometimes the ads disappear within a day of abuse.
