I got a letter through the post today, from a very well known mail order company. A company that TV stars Trinny and Suzanna have been advertising for the past while...

Anyway, right away the letter appears to be a photocopy, not very well printed. It's addressed to me, got my full name and address but I don't remember ever buying from/signing up to this company, for a catalogue or any other services. It says 'Congratulations, you've won a prize', and it's given me an amount similar to 'you've won anything from £20 - £1000.' It has also been signed using only the persons first name. For example if it was 'John Smith', the person has just signed 'JOHN'.

It could be real, but I just got that feeling of scam when I looked at it. The only thing that really bothers me, is that some company might have my personal details and is sending me rubbish.

Thanks.

Has it got a telephone number, or to fill in a form and send it to them? If it has a telephone number google it, and if it's a form it's most likely asking for your bank details to transfer it into (lol scam) or your address (they already have it - probably lol scam)

they want you to send a admin fee or anything?

Sounds a little dodge. If you've had no contact with this firm (especially financial) then you need to question why they're giving you money for doing nothing. Successful and genuine firms generally don't operate like this :) The fact it's endorsed by some two-bit celebrities shouldn't bring any reassurance tbh.

If you think it might be a scam, it probably is.

A good rule of thumb :)
