So, here's the story, a couple of days ago my girlfriends hotmail account was suspended. Today she searches online for a number for Hotmail, she rings a freefone number, speaks to some guy. He gets her to go onto logmein123 which brought up a window which asked for an activation code which he gave her. This guy is now using her laptop, and loads of the networks lists and shows that somebody has hacked into our laptop, apparently Nigerian hackers...? He suggested taking the laptop somewhere to get fixed to remove the virus. Now I'm a bit sceptical, would Microsoft remotely access out laptop? Has this guy now put something on the laptop to record all our details? I have now cancelled all my credit/debit cards and will have to change all my online passwords now too.

Sorry, which bits didn't make sense? It's been a bit of a stressful day with other things going on so apologies if I've made any errors!

The laptop is going off to PC shop who I know quite well and they are having to uninstall everything etc.

If this guy on the phone was a scammer, surely he should have said everything was fine with the laptop? Now we have put stops on our accounts so they can't do anything?

But wouldn't most people cancel their cards after hearing that their PC had a virus? Saying that, most people wouldn't give someone on the end of the phone remote access to their PC.....

I'm not sure of which website, I tried searching for what she searched for but I can't find the number. I've rung the number and it's hold music straight away.

I just don't understand what they are hoping to get out of it by saying that we do have a virus on the laptop. Anyway, laptop is being backed up tonight, and shipped out tomorrow morning. Cards should arrive next 5 days. Then she's never using it again!!
