Hello,

What causes a speed camera to flash? Under the speed limit?

The reason I ask is, I have just gone through one of those big yellow ones at about 28 mph in a 30 mph zone, looked in my rear view mirror and saw the flash go  . Do they do it just to stir you up or something lol..There was no one behind me nor was there anyone on the other side of the road.

Cheers,

Ben.

Possibly, we have one out side work just before a turning, it flashes you as you turn  :D

Yeah, one near me goes off way before you get to it (you can see it in the distance) when the road is clear now and then.

Going the opposite direction and flashing them with your lights gets them to do so also.

As long as you were under the limit it's fine, they have to check against the calibration lines on the road.

ahh thats cool, i always drop 2 or 3 under the limit when I pass one anyway and yup just the one flash, don't want any points on this clean licence.

Cheers fellas!

I've seen new ones set to a few mph below the limit, just to get them flashing and people thinking they're now active. They sit empty for months before getting the kit installed.

I've been flashed before by a camera at a junction and didn't get any fine.

I'm not sure what speed I was doing tho, as I was looking at the road instead of the speedo. :D

I've heard they need to discharge the flash everynow and again, which is why they go off randomly.

Either that or the Hayabusa Wasps are in mating season again.
