Scammed by G2A

so what is this, a site to get cheap ie rip-off cd keys? and people are surprised when things like this happen?

Indeed! And the very fact that they offer insurance in case the key you get doesn't work is surely reason enough to avoid. I know everyone wants a bargain but I find it hard to have much sympathy when some of the keys are probably stolen, although I realise a lot of people aren't to know and hope the OP can get their money back.

Cdkeys are great.

If a website gives me the option of insurance (which for many people ended up being a recurring charge) then it would suggest there is the possibility of it going wrong.

I wonder about these Steam key resellers though - I mean who is paying for Steam's bandwidth if you are just adding a key without giving them a cut? It wouldn't surprise me in the future if Steam started asking you to pay to download after the initial time.

I've used g2a for couple of years now. Only had 1 purchase where the key was already used, issue was sorted same day. Maybe I'm one of the lucky ones.

People worry about corporations getting their cut these days? What a time to be alive! Rest assured if a game is listed on steam they do get their cut no matter what.

There is no way I would ever stop using keysites as long as they exist.

Ive used them a handful of times, mostly for cheaper stuff and its been ok. Everything feels a bit shady though, but often worth the risk at about 1/5 the price in some cases.

Clearly things go wrong though and they have been blacklisted on sites like HUKD.

You've probably already told Paypal the complete story but it's worth noting that Paypal, at least when I used them a lot which I admit hasn't been for a few years now, do not take your side if you've bought virtual items. If you want Paypal to be on your side you need to say you paid for a physical object that hasn't been delivered then they put it on the seller to produce the evidence or else they face having money being forcibly taken from their account. Essentially the seller needs to come up with a plausible story based on physical evidence in order to keep your cash but only if you put them in that position, otherwise it's in their interest to make Paypal believe you've bought a virtual item.

Update, PayPal messaged me today to say they were able to retrieve the money.

At this point, the money was already sat in my PayPal account. . Justice!

Well done for sorting it mate, G2A are an absolute scam. I used to use them but after the reports of exactly this happening and lots of solid proof online and reports of them using illegaly obtained keys. I won't touch them with a barge pole.

I believe allkeyshop only list reputable key resellers and G2A are one of the companies removed from their 'lists'. It compares all the key sites and shows user ratings. Really handy when looking for a game cheap.

Just looked at cdkeyshop and G2A is on the front page twice.

Going to leave a lengthy paragraph on trust pilot tomorrow showing how shady they are and their buisiness practices. Maybe multiple times and some more..

The biggest crime here is the price of that DLC, how much is that garbage retail!? If G2a sell a DLC for £30 i dread to think what it is on origin. Puke.

I had a few quid in paypal I wanted to spend so bought something off G2a. Key didn't work. Don't have the time or inclination to try and get it back.....obviously dodgy, but if you go into it eyes open...

another one here who has only used cd keys and not had any trouble with them

Don't waste your time with customer service.

If paid by PayPal initiate a charge back

Been there done that.

I only use CD Keys and occasionally CJs. Never had an issue. The fact G2A offer insurance for each purchase has always suggested potential problems to me and have avoided them for that reason.
