Hi All,

I am on Vista Home Premium and have just purchased a sata docking station via usb 2.0. I had a small compact acer pc which the boot manager decided to corrupt, after trying to reinstall the operating system several times, and with errors each time during maybe 10 mins into the install, also tried installing ubuntu, windows xp, vista...all with an error. I figured the actual hard drive is broken or has errors on it. Currently ordering a new drive for it, but in the meantime I would like to scan it for errors, what is the best way to do this? Can I do itvia the docking station? and using what kind of software can I do it from within the windows environment? Secondly for future reference, is there a boot disk with a good utility to do this if it ever happens again? I have tried a few, but not sure what's the best boot disk to use.

Also tried the vista repair utility which said it had repaird 1 error, but it never booted anyway, just said bootmgr is corrupt blah blah blah. Sometimes it would say load windows? or try to repair the problem. When I say repair, it says can't, there was a recent hardware change, which there wasn't........

Anyway, hope y'all understand the above. Thanks in advance for any help.

wky.
