Scanner text is unuseable, "OCR" needed?

I've hooked me old scanner up so me daughter can get to her coursework, scan it and modify using microsoft word. Trouble is, whenever she opens word, the text is garbled rubbish (looks Greek actually). Any idea how to get round this prob?

does she have perticulally(sp) hard to read writing?

No, its typed script that she needs to modify. Its the result of going through the scanner nad then word that garbles it.

what is your workflow? You're not opening the image file straight into word?

You need to scan into your OCR program and then train before saving and only then modifying in Word
