Scanning (picture) software?

Hello,

my Dad has a Windows 8 PC and an old scanner, I've managed to get the scanner to work. However, he doesn't have any software, can anyone recommend some easy to use software? ideally free, doesn't need to be feature rich, just click and scan would be perfect.

I assume Windows 8 doesn't come with any?

Windows has had it built in since Win98.

From the W8 dashboard just type "scan" and the in the Apps search you'll see the "Windows Fax & Scan" app.

VueScan9 is a paid for alternative.

I didn't think the built in version was for picture scanning? It looks like it can scan but only for faxing purposes and therefore very low quality?
