Scary FPS's

System Shock 2 and Thief 3 are on their way to me now :) I ordered them t'other day after seeing the thread which inspired this one.

Doom 3 and Condemned are both sort of similar to me.

I don't understand how people say that they can only play it in short bursts. I found (especially with Condemned) that after a while you sort of become immune to the atmosphere and it doesn't effect you as much, I think this is when you're totally focused on the game, every shock is still just as bad but you sort of recover from them quicker, that's what I thought :)

Doom 3 has definately been the most pant wetting game for me, also the most atmospheric. I also think HL2 is very atmospheric, just in a different way.

FEAR was NOT scary. Apart from 'that' bit with the ladder.

EDIT: The SS2 comment about the Midwife reminds me of what happens after you've killed a baddie in a situation like that. It's awesome when you've just pwned them and you're left in the (hopefully) empty room looking around for another one to come out :D

SS2 doesnt like xp nor my 7900gto, might have to get the old windows 98 with a riva tnt on the go then :D

If you do a search in this forum for System Shock 2 you'll find a thread with some tips on how to get it running under XP.

yes! just like the shining is the best horror film of all time. fact. they need to remake it with the fear engine

Yeah! Even the Source engine will be enough! For me atleast

When I was 11 years old I was scared Shi*less of HL1 and those faceghuggers!

Can´t get enough horror, heh

Anyone know a game that is actually more like fuc*ed up and not startling as I didn´t find Fear too scary, it just made me jump..

just patching ssII to v2.3 is usually enough to get it running on xp. thats all i did, didnt have to set compatibility. with the high res textures and the rebirth mod it doesnt look too bad:)

But the all-time great, killer scary, most frightening game of all time (in my ever so humble opinion) is now so dated I wouldn't suggest it to anyone.....but does anyone else remember Realms of the Haunting? What a game that was. One of my all-time favourites.

Yep i have the boxed orginal sitting in my bed room. :)

Oh well, I´ve just gotten used to calling them facehuggers...Dunno why

But The Ravenholm chapter really has a nice feel in it. The sounds and everything. Awesome

I stand by my original statement, ya all softies ! :D

the fps mopments i like most are those that get ya heart going and almost stop breathing as you fire franticaly killing everything while going through room after room on 1 health and no medkits in sight ... Painkiller was particuarly feindish in this regard ;)

Doom 3 and Painkiller.

Those baby angel things that crawl accross the floor easily the creepiest creatures.

Half life one, because it starts so like 'just on the way to the office'...

Or for pure fear, first time you were in that bit in Max Payne where you had to run through the burning building. Very effective on the adrenal glands!
