System Shock 2 and Thief 3 are on their way to me now
I ordered them t'other day after seeing the thread which inspired this one.
Doom 3 and Condemned are both sort of similar to me.
I don't understand how people say that they can only play it in short bursts. I found (especially with Condemned) that after a while you sort of become immune to the atmosphere and it doesn't effect you as much, I think this is when you're totally focused on the game, every shock is still just as bad but you sort of recover from them quicker, that's what I thought
Doom 3 has definately been the most pant wetting game for me, also the most atmospheric. I also think HL2 is very atmospheric, just in a different way.
FEAR was NOT scary. Apart from 'that' bit with the ladder.
EDIT: The SS2 comment about the Midwife reminds me of what happens after you've killed a baddie in a situation like that. It's awesome when you've just pwned them and you're left in the (hopefully) empty room looking around for another one to come out
If you do a search in this forum for System Shock 2 you'll find a thread with some tips on how to get it running under XP.
