Hi all,

Driving to a client this morning along the 60mph back roads. Only driving at 50 maximum as I didn’t know the area too well. Came to a "S" bend, went round the first bit and was going a little too fast as it was a hidden tight left so I turned in and lifted off at the same time  giving me the old "lift off oversteer" and the backend came out. Now this is a new experience for me as it’s never happen in my 2 years of driving :( So the next thing I did was foot on the break as I **** myself, again I know this is what not to do :) but in the panic I just did and it came out the other way luckily I steered into it this time and it weighed its self out and I carried on.

It was the scariest thing that ever happened to me :(

I know it was probably mostly my fault and yes I will learn from it but what I would like to know is if you can recommend me a good skid pan course or as such. After this I would like to know what to do next time, I know I know what to do but how to control the shock and panic and put it into practice.

Thanks all :p

P.S I dont need all the "slow down" remarks as I already know :D

i did this in a 307, it's proper scary when the back is bouncing around

you got a focus? they're pretty good in 'sticky' situations

Pretty impressive as its very hard to get my car to oversteer... always under steers straight on :S

Next time it won't be so scary :)

I did this on the day I passed, missed a downshift which would have caused the engine braking to cut some speed, ended up coasting in to a hairpin and had exactly the same thing happen. I managed to steer it through though with a bit of opposite lock and lots of throttle...scared the bejesus out of me though.

Lots of throttle doesn't tend to do much if you aren't in gear...

stupid question i know, but if your car does start to skid etc like that, what exacly are you ment to do, i know you shouldnt put the breaks on, what do you do instead?

Similar thing happened to me, strangely enough i didn't panic but managed to straighten it up and continue.

Was a bit of a hairy moment though :p

Same thing happens to me, expect I was going around a corner at 90mph in the snow.

Managed to tweak the offside rear side balancer off just a nipple and with some 95.4% throttle she was a goon un'.

AFAIK you are meant to steer into the skid and lightly put the throttle on, but also you are meant to be ready for the "snap back" when/if the car straightens up.

The scariest part was it felt like the back end was just sliding on ice. No grip whatsoever. Very weird feeling when you first experience it.

Don't press the brakes.

Go back on the throttle gently and give it some opposite lock. Be careful not to make a pizza...

Goksly
I know lol thats what it normally does but I think me lifting off the gas wouldnt have helped :(

Yea I have a focus, they must be pritty good as it was over fairly quick :p
whitecrook
I hope it wont :) Scared the **** out of me

People always say dont panic and dont break but its really hard as its you instinct to thats why I would like to do it more on and skid pan day. Thinking about it know it was quite fun and exciting but scary at the same time.

That's not as scary as glancing in your mirror to see your 45ft long trailer sliding onto the wrong side of the road.....

I hate snow! :p

Rear started to go coming off a roundabout in the wet for the first time in the beemer.

It gave me a semi.

First time I experienced it in my 306 3 years ago when I used to drive like a **** the first thing I did was nail the throttle but over-corrected...several times but managed to catch it before I ran out of road.

That was scary but my passenger was laughing his head off lol
