SCCM OSD

Well I'm a newbie so MMS was definitely not on the cards for me this year, hopefully in the future though.

Hell I'd be happy to just to Vegas for a personal trip :D

Leaving for MMS tomorrow. Packed and ready for Vegas. Some awesome sessions on. Can't wait :D Am loving the new wave of products. What with SC2012 and the upcoming Server 8 release it's exciting times.

And check MSDN or your VLS for SC 2012 ;)

**** me. That's not a beta? That's RTM?

Installing now. Unfortunately, it's absolute insistence that your SQL server has the SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS collation means I've now got to drop all user db's, switch the collation and then restore from backup. Right pain.

Or just run it in its own instance, or locally on the CM box? :)

Don't want to create another instance really, seems a bit overkill just for a single database. Also, don't want to have multiple SQL boxes everywhere, especially given that the CM box is virtualised. I gave up trying to get decent SQL performance on my virtual infrastructure and just it as a physical cluster instead.

Sadface :(

Been using sccm to deploy windows 7, takes about 10 minutes to build a pc/laptop from start to finish with a fairly basic build, that time can double if its a machine that needs specific drivers for the lan card for some reason, but i take the attitude that it doesnt matter if it takes an hour it gives a much more constent build, we have about 4000 xp pc's and you really dont know what your going to find when you sit down to look at one it depends which image they used or if they used one at all, iv'e found images in our place that must be 4 or 5 times descended from old images that have been tweaked and reimaged, they have dll's missing and wont work with group policy's properly and i have to write scripts to go out and fix these machines, meantime i could throttle our techy's sometimes for blaming group policy for not working when infact its the images they have no idea how to manage! the OSD side of sccm i'm hoping will cure this. It can be a little fiddly to setup over a wan because pxe traffix is non routable but we just included our sccm server in the dhcp relay and that took care of that. Am hoping i can convince my boss to get sccm 2012 when it comes out it looks like a big step up.
