Any school IT technicians affected by BSF and the outsourcing of IT in schools?

From what i have been reading it seems a lot of network managers in schools have been tuped or lost their jobs completely. The senior management team at my school are very reluctant to give any details of what is happening. Although BSF wont start at the school till around 2011 is it time to start looking elsewhere for employment?

Anybody in the same situation care to share their thoughts/experience.

I got out of a school earmarked for Building Schools for Future, thank the Goddess.

SMT will never talk about it until they know their position. My advice is to get out before 2011.

Got out of being a school network manager years ago.

Am now running a successful company providing everything ICT to schools and small businesses - taking advantage of outsourcing!

found that website thanks.

there seems to be no info regarding whats happening at our place. its the first ive heard of all this to be honest. i will have to talk to the head tommorow but i suspect she wont know what will be happening.

Most likely she will know but will not want to say anything especially if the BSF programme is only a couple of years away and she is anything like the SMT at my school. Your LEA should have the info your after. Try looking on their website for info.

Are you the technician or network manager at the school? From what i have read most techies will keep their jobs (be tuped) as they need someone on site. Its the network managers that are likely to lose their jobs.

cant see anything on the lea website regarding the IT.

technically(according to my job description) im a technician but for about 2 years ive worked there alone and handle everything. so i personally consider myself a newtwork manager.

just spoke to our head about this, she has been in meeting regarding whats happening but she didnt know anything about IT being contracted out. basically she said we were getting a bunch of money, so maybe its not happening in our LEA.

a lot of people at the council would lose their jobs if it were to happen so i cant see it personally but its not happening until 2012 anyway so ive got time to sort my life out
