I'm soon coming up to doing school work experience, and I'm looking to go into games design. I'd like to do that sort of job in the future, but don't know of many IT design firms near me. Doe's anyone know of any IT company like that in Newcastle-upon-Tyne?

+ Grateful for any help :)

When I did mine, I really didn't know what I wanted to do in the future, so I went to Thales. Had a great time in their Aviation department, learnt basic coding in the ironically named Visual Basic, and got to play in their flight simulators for quite a few hours and learnt how to take off and land a Boeing 747 :D

I know it's not really 'Work', but I still loved it!

Lol, true. Just i've always liked pc, and some design - even though i didn't take art :(

But, I can build pc's. So OcUK, you like the other Newcastle? :p

@h, I loved my work experience... 2 weeks in a 'computer shop'

I learned so much from that thinking back... great experience.

Have a google around mate and contact as many as you can, good luck :}

I did 2 weeks at my Local Uni in the CAD CAM department as I was doing GNVQ Manufacturing and really enjoyed it, left school went into IT and never touched CAD CAM since school so make sure you pick somewhere you REALLY want yourself to be in the future :)

Wtf!!!???

Your work experiences sound awesome!

I was given a placement in a primary school! Spent 2 weeks marking Key Stage 1 SATS papers.

I did mine in an LRC, got to spend a lot of time learning quite useful networking stuff such as cable crimping etc and got a real good feeling for how it is to work in that kind of environment.

Jealous much!

I done mine in a pet shop, it was actually pretty good even though I had to clean out the rabbits and they stank to high heaven.

My mate is doing computer games design at Uni, and he's really quite good at it too. His school work experience was nothing to do with 3D animation but he worked himself to death at college to get into the uni course.

I did work experience in a graphics design section of the NHS. I'm now on a music tech course at uni cus I worked myself to death at college to get here.

Basically i'm trying to say that work experience in school is not going to completely dictate where you go in life, so don't worry too much about it. I personally feel school has pretty much no bearing on anything after other than getting into college where you actually have to start doing something.

I did mine at Marks and Spencer, was a rubbish 2 weeks.

I'm still to this day not entirely sure work experiance actually has any benefit. Although I am quietly laughing in my head at that episode of The Inbetweeners.

From the sounds of it most people here had choice.

Consider the vast array of busineses in Penzance, you could have the pasty shop or an estate agents.

No aircraft simulators for me :(

Mine was poor. Sat in a garage doing fap all with men who had a vicious swearing problem. Ahh good laugh though. :)

- Oh yeah, pretty much did a Will off of Inbetweeners. Just didn't get bullied!

FFS - Was meant to be an edit. :(

I went to work with my Dad for a couple of weeks...and then did the same thing when i had to do work experience again. :p

It was a MoD department, so kinda cool. Didn't understand most of it though. :o

I spent a week with BT engineers on the road, general messing about and having a laugh, eating McDonalds and such!

I went to a guitar shop, because I like guitars..

I didn't really learn anything. So yes, make the most of it and choose to be in a career you're actually interested in.
