Schools - LOST THE PLOT?

I would also say that it is a fairly unusual hairstyle, although possibly not in some subcultures.

I can see why policies like this are in place, so that parents don't send their kids to school with a target on their back for bullying. I suppose if this type of hairstyle looks totally normal to you then it may be difficult to understand.

Not really.

grade 4 = half an inch or 12mm
grade 3 = 3/8 of an inch or 9mm
grade 2 = 1/4 of an inch or 6mm
grade 1 = 1/8 of an inch or 3mm

All of these are clipper grades. Is 12mm hair shaved?! No!

Indeed. Mrs Cheesyboy would definitely be heard chuntering "shave yo face Mr Cheesyboy" if ones whiskers were flailing around at those lengths.

Of course it is, I have a 4 on back and sides when I get mine cut. I don't go saying "I had clippered back and sides".

If that's what it says on the school's website then they have a point tbh.

The policy posted above is clear, no partially shaved, that is partially shaved, clippers = shaved. Just to add it doesn't exactly look great

That's a ridiculous haircut anyway.

So what. It's his hair, he should be allowed to style it any way he wants without ignorant morons taking punitive action against him. Too many busy bodies in our society forcing crap on people imo. It's a hair cut ! Get over it !

The issue at hand is not whether or the hair should is or isn't shaved, the issue I have the whether punishing him for it when his mother cut his hair this way.

And the fact that his form tutor promised to call us back by 4:30 and hasn't and now the phone lines are closed hasn't helped with the feelings towards the school either.

What's wrong with the cut? okay she didn't do an amazingly professional looking hair cut but it's a popular hairstyle with hipsters and seemingly the gay community (gay friend just got the same haircut recently)

It's not like it's a haircut associated with a negative stereotype (okay maybe hispters are debatable)

Clippers = short

I don't go the barbers and ask for a shaved back and sides...

BTW on the proper version the line where the parting would be, it should be shaved in?

Whilst I agree that it's a bit over the top, it's pretty clear from the guidance that the school have provided that it was likely to provoke a reaction from the school.

However, I would have thought that the school should have spoke to the parents before putting the child into isolation etc. That part is wrong.

Tell them it was cut for Religious purposes (He's half Buddhist) and they will instantly back down.

This kind of policy is very common, and it's easy to stay on the correct side of things; it seems a bit harsh as it was your missus who cut his hair and now he's being punished for it but their policy is clear I guess so once you talk to them they may see the other side of things and let him back into general population.

'exteme' hair-do's were banned in my school too (going back a a bit) and it was mostly to stop chavs looking more like chavs and then other chavs joining in and making the whole school look like it was full of thugs / chavs (even though it was lol). partly shaven (clipper shaven, not bald) heads were not allowed. neither were shaved lines or patterns in the hair so they started making lines in their eyebrows instead!

It tends to have a knock-on-effect in shooles as kids will copy other kids and sooner or later there will be a lot of pupils with similar hair styles.

Saying that; I had very long hair at school [read: hippy hair] that had to be tied back and that was never deemed as 'extreme' It's been long even since and I never got told to cut it or anything.

FWIW I think policies like this, as well as uniform policy is generally a good thing as it [tries to] stop, or limit this 'cool competition' that seems to happen in schools. you can do whatever you want in the holidays or when you leave school though!

Of late we have had quite a few pupils arriving at school with inappropriately coloured hair or hair styles. Can I remind you, again as I have your son/daughter that only natural hair colours are permitted in school (i.e. those a person is born with). Regarding hair styles the simple rule is if you are unsure then please ask. As a general rule; no shaved heads, no partly shaved heads and no extreme hair styles.

its school policy, and clearly states this, whether you think this is shaved or not, they do and that is what matters.

I personally would call this a shaved parting, as would hairdressers.

think yourself lucky they didn't send him home until it grows, involving childcare costs for 3 weeks or more.

I would believe that shaved heads or partly shaved areas means grade 0. His hair was cut to grade 2, this is not shaven.

I shave my head using a razer blade myself - this is fully shaved, there is a massive difference.

The the solution is simple. Take your Son to the headmasters office and point to your head whilst saying "shaved" then point to your lad's head and say "short, not shaved". Repeat ad infinitum, or at least until it sinks into his think skull.

Job done!

Right so your boy has his hair cut. its not to school standards.

The only choice you have is to completely shave it and keep him off school till it grows back.

before all that though i would put a burning bag of hair through the letter box.
