Aye, the small discontuniuty in exhaust containment might have something to do with that gaping chasm of a gap yeah :D Its not so much clamped together as introduced.

Has anybody else noticed how puny those lower wishbone mounts are? I'm going to die the first corner I come to aren't I!

Yes. Well... that is to say they are based on the TR6 which are very similar to the GT6. I was always amazed the wheels stayed on that thing whenever I went around a corner :D
 
You should see the perversion that mr downpipe gets up to behind that chassis rail! I wouldn't want to speak to him either!

Reliant in their infinite wisdom decided to base it on the tr6 up until the se6, then change it ever so slightly for the se6a so that tr6 disks don't fit. I'm not impressed at £80 a pair so we are going to try and get these skimmed.

Aye tis glasson dock in all its glory.

lol, makes sense. Why have parts interchangability when you can have the expense of exclusivity :D
 
finally got the stupid steering rack bolt out then put it back in the other way round with the new rack, the correct way round. The way round that means you might be able to get them out again at a later date.

Unfortunately some numb nuts has put the near side upper wishbone on upside down as well so we are going to have to dismantle that side of the suspension at sound point as well. Hopefully the upper trunion will have survived, it is at an odd angle at the moment.

Disks are scrap though, they've both got massive groves on the back face. So we are looking at £40 each +p&p and pads, so £120 for a full set. Not even grooved! I'm going to try and find out if they are tr6 stub axles, hopefully they only changed the hubs so we could fit tr6 hubs and tr6 disks which are cheaper, might even get some vented ones then.

Having said that the entire stub axle...bit is probably different because they changed the design of calliper from 3 pot to 2 pot. At least I think its 2 pot, they appear to oppose each other, either way its different so the mounts probably changed so we are screwed...
 
We've already put the normal rubber ones on. Mainly because we've only done one side so far.

Well the front suspension and steering and brakes are back together...finally! Swapped the upper wishbones over as well so the upper ball joint/trunion is at the right angle. Had a bit of a worry when the steering stopped working, but a bit of jiggling the wishbones sorted that out.

She's gone into town today to have that seatbelt mount sorted out, but not before we exploded the spring on the reel, oops! Another £40 gone :( In a couple of days she's getting her nice new stainless exhausts fitted. Then we can do the valve clearances and start tuning her back up. New exhaust gaskets should sort out the massive leak we've got there too. Its a wonder any of the exhaust actually bothers getting out of the back of the car.

Why did I buy ANOTHER classic car that doesn't work :(

Thing is I've only ever driven it on 2-6 cylinders or towed, it better not be rubbish when its finished. I guess I can keep it as a yard ornament :p

Oh i found out why the tr6 disks don't fit. Scimitar got bored with the girling 3 pots and decided to use lockheed 2 pots. To make them fit they shaved 5mm off the radius of the disks. 5MM!!!! ARGH!!! Would love to have been in that meeting...

Loads of progress, some more puzzlement and nigh on success!

I've been awa for a week so i cant take much credit but pleanty's been done. We've got nice new twin stainless exhausts, working seatbelts with a nice new solid mount, working horn stalk, wipers, plugs, disappointingly but not shockingly 4 new tyres.

Chuffed with the new exhaust. Found out why it was leaking, not only were the manifolds were missing bolts (which we'd spotted) but had (rubbish) home made gaskets too. Better still one side has an 4-2 sd1 manifold, the other side has a 4-1 land rover manifold........grrr. But we'll sort that out in due course.

Disappointingly when we threw it at a mot it failed on emissions. Even more annoyingly the mixture screw is having no effect so I'm going to have to dismantle the carbs again and work out what's broken/worn/stripped/sheared or crudded up! But AFTER that WE'LL HAVE AN MOT!
 
WE'VE GOT AN MOT!!!!!!!!

Turned out the choke seals had died. Replaced them and de crudded the pistons and all is well again in the land of carbs!

She still had a damn good go at failing the emissions test though, we've got a lot of exhaust straying into the crank case. The MOT guy reckoned it was a stuck ring or three. Hopefully we can unstick it.

So I finally got to drive it home properly! We managed 2 miles before exploding in a shower of steam :D There may still be issues...
