Hello,

I have a
SCMG-5100 MUGEN 5 REV.B CPU COOLER

On my 3900x. I have the fan pulling air out, as it doesn't fit great pushing cos my RGB RAM.

But i would like to add an extra fan, could you recommend me a 120mm fan, and an adapter for both of them to plug into the header on the motherboard.

I wanna put them into a push pull setup.

James

What fan is on it already try and get the same fan so everything matches mate
I think it's a Scythe Kaze PWM 1200 rpm that comes with the cooler. They're pretty decent fans from what I've seen! I think they look cool too, remind me over the Noctua redux line.

Saying that you could get a Noctua redux which is fairly close to the Scythe Kaze.

Is the RGB RAM blocking the fan on the Mugen??

Yeah, most of it would be over the heatsink but i'd say maybe 2 cm would be above

I'm not sure if it would help but you could potentially get a low profile fan which is 15mm in depth instead of 25mm, which is what they've done on the Fuma 2 to help get you that extra clearance. Of course it might still obstruct the RAM. I'll see if I can get a picture to help illustrate.

Here we go, you can see how the second fan is thinner to help with the RAM clearance:

If you google "Scythe Kaze Flex 120mm PWM 300-1200rpm", the first link should be what you are after.

Have you installed the cooler the wrong way round?

It is offset so it should go towards the back of the case.

I'm sure its the right way. The left of this pic is where my ram is, If i turn it around it won't sit properly at all.
So this picture is from the perspective of looking into the case, right side goes towards front of the case and left side will be going towards the IO shield and rear exhaust etc.

So are you saying that your cooler is mounted with the right side being the back of the case and left side being the front?

What motherboard are you using? Do you have any pictures of why it won't sit properly. Usually Scythe are pretty good with their Mobo compatibility with ram clearance, Ninja 5 being an exception.

I'll take some pics tomorrow. But if your looking into the case from the window, the cut out bit on the left of that picture is on the right above the ram. So the fan in the picture is on the left hand side when looking into the case pulling air through the heatsink and out towards the exhaust fan.

The case is a Kolink Observatory Case.

That does sound like it is the wrong way round.

The cut out goes towards the rear of the case. You should then have the fan near the RAM pushing air through the fins from front to rear of the case.

It does sound like it's the wrong way round but he said it wouldn't sit right the other way round as well. Let's see what the photos show tomorrow.

Should be able to get a setup like this again left side is rear of the case, right side is front of the case:

Sorry I don't know how to re-size the photo >_<

Sounds like there's other checks higher on your to-do list, but if you do get to needing new fans, I think you need/want to look for a "static pressure" fan to do the job pushing air into the cooler...

Well i am officially an idiot.

I had it on the wrong way round.

Turn it round and now the fan sits the same side as the ram and is pushing air through.

Might grab another fan tho pull if they are cheap. Not that the time are high, highest i seen so ar is 70c when playing pubg, but not tested since i turnt the heatsink around

Do you know that adding a 2nd fan is only going to give you 1-2c lower temps at abut 3dB louder noise level? Single fan cools the same as push/pull at same noise level. Only difference is with fans at full speed and then it's 1-2c lower temp, 3c maximum on rare occasions.

Basically if your system is running too hot it's most likely not because of cooler not working well, but because your case airflow is not very good and the air is getting pre-heated before it goes into cooler. Every degree warmer the air is going into cooler is same degree hotter CPU will be at same fan speed. So if air into cooler when gaming is 10-15c warmer than room and you improve case airflow so it is only 3-5c warmer than room your CPU temps will be 7-12c cooler.

Woohoo! Glad to hear you've fixed it! I don't think the temps should change very much, but at least now you're able to put a second fan on without it blocking anything or having to raise the fan to clear any obstructions.
