Scottish cyclists to pay road tax

Sorry by middle of the road I meant near the white line (not middle of one lane)

Are you talking about when there are two cyclists, or just one? If there are two then they are juat maintaining presence, if there is one, then it could be for presence or it could be a for a number of reasons (including being idiots incase you think I'm indescriminately defending all cyclists).

I cycle around the last 200m to my house right over to the center line because otherwise traffic frequently doesn't let me out to turn right into my driveway, or I get idiots who think I'm turning right at the junction further down trying to overtake me as I'm turning into my drive.

I'm mostly talking about when there are two. Presence I can understand but not continuing to cycle two abreast no matter what the road conditions are - i.e. even when clucling wide makes them less visible.

I can't understand why you are against it? They use the roads and can be a factor in accidents, thus should most definitely have insurance and a way of being traced.

because its about the same as requiring a license to eat ice cream if your under 6 years old

cycling in central london is far more insane that most of you know, if you dont cycle in oncomming traffic, overtake cars, ignore red lights, jump across pavements, you will never get out, you'll be there for days

those guys got much more stamina than me, but essentially this is how you cycle

edit: this is basically my route, lol

notice at 1:50, the moron with all the gear doesnt even look where he is going

I really hope you are joking. There is absolutely no reason to cycle like that, (other than the fact it that like most dangerous things, it looks an awful lot of fun).

WTF I watched that video quite a while back and DAMN, they are all idiots putting themselves and everyone else at risk. That is NOT how you need to cycle in London.

He is platinum87, he does not joke. For even suggesting that he is joking he is now going to have to kill you and your entire family. Probably with just a spoon.

they cycle with fast reactions and skill, for years and years, people you would think cycle properly all do it like the guy at 1:50 in the video, they go really really slow, never ever look around and often cause cars to slow down or brake quickly, wearing reflective crap during the day, and a helmet so they cant hear anything, and can only see things directly infront of them..

i cycle like that, through central london, the cars are nearly always stationary anyway, never once crashed.. marble arch to old street station takes about 15 minutes.

Almost exactly what I was going to say.:)

But yeah it looks fun, and they look like very good cyclists, however that sort of speed/manouvers are best left to singletrack off road...:p

Lolwut?

I see messengers everyday (and a lot of fakengers). None of them cycle like that on a regular basis. It's a video them made of a race, not their average day at work.

Whereabouts are your eyes and ears on your head??!!

helmet covers your ears, you cant see to the sides like you normally can, this is why i wouldnt wear them ever, im convinced i would crash

thats how it is , as far as i have seen in the past 3 years through central london every day nearly

I partially agree with that, but more on the damage side. On a road if you go down most of the time it will be because you are hit by a car/bus/lorry, and in that case a helmet really isn't going to help... Off road however it's a different matter.

Car drivers are idiots when it comes to how they deal with cyclists. On my drive home from my sons nursery today I nearly ran into the back of a car when the driver slammed on the brakes due to a cyclist who was less than 2ft from the kerb and doing nothing in particular to warrant the drivers brake happy caper. The opposite lane was empty so why he didn't just move out is anyone's guess.

Anyhoo, I get home and head out on my bike only to be clipped by a car driving too close. No harm done apart from their wing mirror colliding with my bar end and flying off into the sunset. Car pulls over and the driver tries to say it's my fault. A quick two word exchange (one of them was off) and I'm cycling again.

I reach a local roundabout and as I'm going through a car decides that he's going ignore the fact that I have right of way but at the last moment he brakes hard and shouts at me to get off the road. I rest my foot on his bumper (yep, that's how close he was) and he goes beserk. Lots of jumping up and down and swearing but nothing more. How disappointed was I?

Yeah, because cycling like a tool is so coooool and hardcore !!!!!1111oneoneone

Gimme a break

And the "moron" at 1:50 probably aint expecting traffic of any kind to be going through a red light when he has right of way but I guess some ppl think that its ALL his fault because he didnt look ??

What? Your helmet covers your ears if you've got a full face or some MTB helmets, otherwise it does no such thing. There is an argument, and some good evidence from Australia, to say that drivers give you less room and take more risks with you if you are wearing a helmet, but it doesn't impede vision or hearing.

thats how it is, as far as i have seen in the past 3 years through central london every day nearly

I think you are confusing some cyclists riding round traffic islands or jumping red lights with what you are seeing in that video.
