Scraping Rattle sound

No baffles in the exhaust ;-) shall I just re sit the exhaust? I did this a couple months ago and fitted new gaskets, thanks for the help guys. I'm going
go over with a spanner and a keen ear later, I hope it is exhaust.

Far too intermittent to be bearings, just go with 4T5's idea & break out the spanners, you'll find the culprit soon enough.

I'd start with checking all the bolts/screws etc. if it's not the cct have a listen near the stator/generator cover.
I know my f3 was making a weird noise after it had slid along the floor, I thought it was fixed after repairing the cover but in the end I had to replace it.

Had a full on inspection over the last few days, dropped oil and replaced with fully synthetic stuff, all bolts are tight all headers on exhaust are tight. Re adjusted cct and it's fine.

Screwdriver stethoscope out and I'm convinced the noise is coming through the exhaust but not the exhaust itself.. Any ideas what could be in the carbs valves that would make this metal scraping sound?

the carbs will not be making any noise.
where are you located?
maybe pop to a bike shop and see if they will give it a listen?

it very much soundslike a vibration rattle to me

does it ride ok?

try and ride it in the rain and get the bike wet, usually external rattles will stop in the rain

could be a loose fitting/joint inside the headers/baffles?

I can take it into h's cafe on the A2 see if they'll lend a hand, bike rides ok other than the noise. Iv taken the slip on off and remounted it but nothing changed, iv not got baffles either. Your right though it does definitely sounds like a vibration rattle, the bike is left out in all weather as I live in a flat so it's experienced a lot if rain :-(

your not a million miles away from me. im in eastbourne and work in hastings, if you wanted to pop down i can go over it with you. if you dont have any luck at the shop.

Are your exhaust downpipes double skinned ? some times the inner pipe comes loose and resonates.

To be honest you need to hear it in the flesh it can be a number of things, your kinda ******* in the wind with a sound clip.

Haven't made it to the shop yet but took it to see my dad, looks like i learnt something today, although iv taken the removable baffle out there are still baffles around the edge of the exhaust which were loose and sending the sounds up and down the pipes. Looks like you guys were bang on the money, Thank you so much :) we've used a chemical metal epoxy to hold them in place till we have time to take the end can apart or i can afford a new one...... Its curing now so hopefully that is problem solved. Will be back with the results

that's good, glad you found what it was,you could drill the rivets out and repack it inside or weld it ect then re rivet it

Glad to hear it wasn't anything serious.
If you are looking at cans I bought a Delkevic for 125 quid last week off Amazon, Loads cheaper than any other cans I've seen, Comes polished with all the fittings & sounds mint.

Small update... After getting some time to go back out on the bike today the noise was still there :(

So it wasn't the end can, even though now it has been glued it blows at both ends of the can, he now owes me a new slip on :D

Thinking it still sounds like the sound it is echoing through the exhaust i start pulling the whole thing off, the problem, where the down pipes go into the collector in a 4-2-1 fashion as the 2 pipes go into 1 there is a small strip of metal separating the two further into the single pipe...no idea why?? anyhow...this is what was rattling around. Looks like someone before hand had welded it back into place and its come loose again.

Thank you guys for all the support and help through this thread :)
