Scrappage scheme question..

Hey guys,

Can't seem to find this info anywhere..

A friend of mine wants to scrap her Ford KA using the scrappage scheme, and then buy a new car.. however, she then wants to sell the new car pretty much straight away, inheriting a bit of extra cash, so she can then go and spend it on a new second hand car..

Is this allowed??

Poor move, the new car will be worth less than what she will pay for it, as it will be 'old' and the prospective purchaser will also be able to PX a car and get the relevant scrappage discounts, so why would they buy second hand one?

Can see why you wouldnt be able to do it tho, its your car at the end of the day.
 
That's what I was thinking? Her car is worth like £500, say if she got a total of £2000 off the new car, if she was then to sell it, she'd say lose £1.5k at least off the new car value? So therefore she'd only get the money for her car. I could be wrong though..
 
How much does a sub £10k car lose over 6 months? I can't really see a big profit to be made from doing so but there is nothing to stop her from trying.
 
It would work if you had the end buyer choosing the car he/she wants then using the girls car as a trade in and giving her more than the Ka was worth in return. Then the girl just notifies the DVLA she has sold it on.



I know there is a lot of ifs and buts in that but its one way it might work.

You can save up to £5,000 on a new Ford under the Scrappage scheme (http://www.ford.co.uk/ScrappageIncentive) :eek:

Dear God, Ford MUST be desperate. However, I really can't see this as much of a money-making ploy.
 
It can be done for decent profit.
A friend of a friend did exactly what the OP is talking about.
Traded his wife's old Corsa against a Toyota Yaris (his research led him to belive that this would depreciate least when driven off the forecourt) then trailered the Yaris to a BMW dealer and traded it against a 2008 530d.
I forget the exact numbers but he rekons he saved around £2000 vs trading the Corsa in against the BMW.
 
I'm sure he does 'reckon' that but I bet if you really looked at the deal he's saved next to nothing, infact, it probably cost him more overall than trailering the Corsa to BMW.

Don't forget that without scrappage you are able to haggle most of the dealers margin they'd have used to fund Scrappage anyway.
