Hi all

Had a big stone fired at me by a lorry this morning. Hit my bonnet then up onto the windscreen. Anyone have any advice on getting the mark repaired? Is it something I could attempt myself with something from Halfords?

Photo should be zoomable so you can see the damage, haven't done anything to it yet.

As you can probably see the bonnet has its fair share of stone chips in addition, which ideally I'd like to improve the appearance of alongside this repair, if feasible and not cost-prohibitive!

Thanks in advance

Sorry, I should've said the mark is about an inch long. I'll take another photo with a coin for scale too.

EDIT: Photos added.

Yeah, it was enough to make me duck as I was driving! It's also marked the top layer of the glass where it hit the screen :(

Difficult to say except there's obviously some damage to the top layer of the paint where it seems to have dug in / rolled.

Get some scratch remover paste and clean it up first, see what its like after that and take it from there. I imagine a good quality product will sort that most of the way there, it just depends how bothered you are with it. Otherwise it is to get a touch in pen, layer it up and cut it back.

Id suggest G3 Scratch remover (the green one)

I'd try something like http://www.halfords.com/motoring/pa...ecla-g3-permanent-scratch-remover-paste-150ml or http://www.halfords.com/motoring/pa...pair-paint-restorers/meguiars-scratch-x-207ml first, then make a decision after that.

It's unlikely you will completely remove it, but if you can minimise it, it may well be good enough.

Touch up pens can be difficult to make a decent looking repair, so I wouldn't bother. If it's a new/newish car and you use a main dealer, can often be worth speaking to them, as they normally have a dedicated person they use for paint correction/touch ups.

Failing that a quote from chips away or similar smart repair would be the most cost effective option.

Really appreciate the advice. Will start with the scratch remover and go from there. Have also contacted the main dealer to see if they fancy improving their after-sales experience points this month. Have only had the car a few weeks, so have had recent contact!
