Guys just installed a 2nd 5870! Ran a game and the screen was abit unstable during load and the publisher's logo, anyway game hung for a few seconds periodically, then totally hung during gameplay!
I forced quit through task manager to find bizarre flickering and graphical anomalies on my desktop! My power meter at the plug is showing 561W when gaming, and I have an HX620 which is a very efficiant PSU, am I pushing it too much? Is it the new card or PSU? I had zero problems before! pesky crossfire!

Try the new 5870 on it's own, and run the heaven benchmark a few times(furmark will show artifacts quite quickly too).
If it's fine then your psu is probably not up to the job.
If the psu is a few years old, from what I've read they lose efficiency over time.

Seems to be a bit better now, forgot I had D3D overrider on for a few games! Turned it off now seems ok!, Played Assassins' Creed Brotherhood for about an hour problem free silky smooth! Still get some flickering/screen jumping on the loading/game logo screen! Will try another Crossfire bridge and run furmark for a while to check everything. Heaven Benchmark is fine and smooth sustained score of the 1975 mark!
Thanks,
Jonnygrunge.

No insult intended mate......but,
surely if the PSU was in-efficient it would draw more current/power to deliver less?
for exampe, I'm hitting about 581W (581 x 0.83 = 482W delivered) on furmark well below the PSU's rating of 620W!. Will try and dig out another Crossfire bridge and try it tonight!

but if your psu is 2-3years it'll be degraded .

also it's a 600w psu for the 12v line and only as 18A each 12v rail

Yeah but surely if it was failing to deliver sufficient current, system fans, etc would slow down, and it would draw a lot more power at the wall socket?

fans won't slow down.

if a psu is overloaded. your system will either crash a lot, freeze randomly, shutdown totally, do weird things under load.

does it happen in all games??

Not all games!
Anyway, Thanks for the input, looking back at my many OcUK orders! I bought PSU in Aug 2007, so it's served me well!
Went ahead and bought the HX850 just now! Impulse buy!
Just got to ruddy disconnect everything when I get home ready for the new PSU tomorrow!, thank goodness my Stacker 850 has a mobo tray should make things easier! Thanks again for the input/advice,

Glad to see that your new card on it's own works ok.
New psu will be more than enough to tackle your xfire now.
It was late and I should have explained myself better and added degraded(as gareth pointed out) along with 'lose efficiency'.:D
