everthing is fine untill i try to copy files to my other pc when the moment i press paste the pc with the new ram freezes
it does not matter which pc does the copying it always the pc with new ram freezes

i put the old 2 gb back in and everthing is fine again

my bios ram settings are all set to auto

do i need to change some bios settings for this new ram ??

cheers

""dram voltage""

could that go under a different name as i cant seem to find that in the bois ??

ok got it ,,,, dram voltage is set to auto

funny thing is these new sticks have just come from a pc with exactualy same MB

and bios settings are both the same

but they do have different cpu and poss different bios versions

does anyone have any idear about this

i remember sometime something about having to look at a corsia voltage chart of some sort and having to change a bios setting to help the ram become more stable

cheers

The RAM is operating at 800MHz (400MHz x2) so according to the SPD it requires 1.8V.

Try changing the DRAM voltage from auto to 1.8V and you can they try increasing it a bit at a time if needed for stability.

ok it has got better in the way that it takes longer for the pc to freeze but it still freezes

i'll say also that the problem when copying files from one pc to another only happens when i try to copy big files like 1 gb

small files copy as normal

how high can i go i'm up to 2.15v

will it help to run the ram at 1066 mhz

cheers

ok this new ram i am trying to use came straight out of my other pc with more or less the same motherboard but running a newer bios version

could this older bios version be causing a problem with ram

ok

my mobo is asus p5k ,, i have read that 1066mhz ram does not like my board so i tryed my 2x2gb 800mhz sticks and the problem still is still there ,,,

so it would seem that the problem is due to installing 4 gb ram

this i know because if i install 2x1 gb then all is good

i have looked at the asus site bios updates and they mention nothing of fixing ram issues

another thing i found is ,,, if i try to copy from one internal hdd to another then i get no problen i only get the problem when i try to copy across my network however like i said with only 2gb ram installed there is no problem

yes thanks shino

i have done that
but to be honist i am about at the stage where i try everthing + again
i just cant belive that this board will not take 4 gb
