After windows boots and it gets just before the welcome screen the screen just goes blank and nothing seems to happen.

I cannot login no matter what I try tried unplugging all connected devices numerous restarts but not joy.

I can get into save mode and from there I have uninstalled the display drivers which works fine soon as I install the AMD Catalyst I'm back to square one,

My BIOS is on the latest version so I know it's something to do with the display driver. I have tried the latest version 13.12 I think it is and tried the beta version but nothing works.

I was originally on the beta version 14.3 before this happened. I just switched off one night and the next day the problem started.

I have read on Google other people have this issue but cannot find any solution

Any ideas?

i had the same mistake when installing a new GPU.

I did the same as you - booted to safe mode, and uninstalled the drivers, and then reboot again.
It took a few attempts (i'm afraid i can't remember exactly what i did that solved my problem), but you're on the right track!!

Try downloading driver fusion, as it removes the old drivers completely. It can be found on step 2 of this guide.

Thanks guys U have tried AMD's own clean-up utility on their site it does remove everything but on reboot Windows picks the card up again and it asks for a restart after which I'm back to square one.

I knew Mobo was Gigabyte before even looking at your Sig, look for updated Bios (you say latest) but even a Beta.

ill check again but I don't think there is anything else I am already on F2 which is the latest. If you can find anything do let me know.

All I know is many with Gigabyte Mobos (AMD & Intel Chipsets) have issues with newer GPU's till they get a new Bios and some had to contact Gigabyte support to get sorted.

Agree.

Gigabyte or not....once I get new mobo updating bios is the very first thing you should do. Remember this with every new mobo you get.

Well I would contact them as this seem to plague Gigabyte owners.

Search this very forum see how many have/had same issue, most of them had the newer AMD GPU's like you do.

It's working now only happens when I install the Catalyst software and has worked fine before for over a month just happened out of the blue

I will get in touch with them tomorrow its getting really annoying now especially when you have to quickly do something and the system wont boot

It happens at different stages, for some they cannot see the Bios screen.

Though this is normally on a new set up, not one that was running fine so hard to say if you have same issue.

Yes but still can be to do with Gigabyte, again search other peeps results here and see if any are near/same as your issue.

Bizzarely this just happened to me, and I've had this system running for a couple of years! Installed windows 8 at the end of last year, 8.1 a couple of months ago, but then about 20 mins ago it just cuts out. Currently on the computer in safe mode to uninstall the drivers and to see if anyone else had this issue.

Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H and a HD6870X2 gpu. Fingers crossed an uninstall, reboot, install sorts it out :x

It went absolutely fine. Went into device manager, uninstalled the drivers for both cards showing (Its a 1 card with two GPUs on it), restarted and apparently it just reinstalled the Catalyst drivers that I still had on there. CCC is still there and working, tried a couple of game benchmarks and performed as expected.

I'd downloaded the latest official and beta drivers, as well as the latest BIOS to flash my mobo with as well just in case, but didn't need any of them!
