Ive been looking at a ASUS ROG with a 3070 card, the screen is 15" and goes upto 1080p.. now for 200 quid more I can get the 3080 card with the same screen, also an ASUS.

Now do you lose a lot of the benefit of having these cards by using them on a screen that is 1080p? Should I be looking at a 1440p screen or better?

There wont be any chance ill run the game via a monitor, its all about sofa gaming for me as easy as it can be.

I wasnt really looking to spend 2000, 1700 was tops.. but if I can get the top end card for that small of a jump im tempted, but am I going to see much benefit on 1080p gaming?

I would say both a desktop part 3070 and 3080 are overkill for 1080p (today - maybe not tomorrow) unless your chasing very high frame rates. Don’t forget however laptop parts have much lower tdp’s and aren’t as remotely powerful as their desktop cousins.

Its also worth pointing out their is a bewildering array of different tdp’s on laptop gpu’s so much so the 3070 could easily be better than the 3080, depending on their tdp’s. Even a good laptop 3060 can be better than a bad laptop 3080 so do your research carefully.

I don’t think you need more than a 3070 at 1080P because you will probably be bottlenecked by the CPU at that resolution.

I’d only go higher in GPU if you are getting a QHD or 4K display.

Its the ASUS with the 7 Ryzen 5800H, so its a good CPU for a laptop I believe, plus both the cards are in the 130w category, so one of the better options for both I believe.

So really if im just gaming at 1080p, stick to the 3070 and save a few quid.
