Screen recording software?

Any advice?

I need software to record the windows desktop, NOT 3d or anything, basically the use of brower windows, and basic desktop navigation.

I need to create some promotional / how to video's for a web application we have.

Free would obviously be better

Oh yeah, it is for Vista 64, not that really will make a difference. Software to record one portion of the screen would be the best bet. I don't need all my desktop recorded, just a section.

Camtasia if you have pockets full of cash or Camstudio if you haven't

Camstudio is good, use that along with windows movie maker, can record straight into xvid too (providing you install the codec)

if you can pay money, then Camtasia is like the all-in-one combined of the above.. we use it in work
