Hi, I need to make some 'tutorial' videos for a piece of software (not recoding gaming), but don't have a clue where to start. Can anyone recommend some software? Ideally, I need something that will allow me to only record a section of the screen / a single window - I don't really want to be editing videos afterwards. Thanks.

If you can get over this and you have the hardware (Nvidia 600-700 series card) by far the best way is to use shadowplay in desktop record mode.

Failing that, Camtasia Studio or cam studio will fit you needs. Camtasia however isn't free hence the free alternative (cam studio).

I know Open Broadcaster was designed with gamers in mind, but you can use it for any thing, and it does it very well.
It is probably one of the very best pieces of software out there for recording and encoding on the fly.

What about Adobe Captivate, you can get a trial for 30 days. Captivate will allow you to specify which monitor you want to record on and which open window/application.

Another vote for shadow play, absolutely wonderful piece of software. Love that you can record the last 5 minutes that have already gone with a press of a button, perfect for catching hackers :p

Thanks for all the replies - I'll check out OBS and some of the others mentioned. Unfortunately I have an ATI card, which rules out shadow play (unless there is an ATI equivalent?)
