Screen resolution/GFX card

I have a 17" monitor which is currently at 1280*1024 pixels.

Is it worth getting a 8800 GTS for a screen this size, or would I be better off buying a cheaper GFX card?

From what I've seen the 8600 GTS runs almost any game maxed out at 1280x1024. If you want to save some money that is.

A 320mb 8800GTS would be perfect for a 17" monitor.

As said, an 8800GTS 320MB suits that resolution perfectly.

Thanks for all the posts. What if i decide to get a larger monitor, and run at a higher res? Would that card still suffice?

Id go for the 640mb for a higher res to be sure, and they are only £225 on here, which is around the 320mb prices, not in stock at the moment though.

Yes - just not maxed out. As new games come along it will get dated as all graphics cards do.

Best bang for buck at the current time is 8800gts 320mb for anything but very high resolution and max everything.
