Screen shimmer

When I turn my PC on or the screen comes out of standby I get a shimmering effect (it's like the brightness is fluctuating). This then stabilises after a fairly short time. Because of this time related effect I don't think it's driver related. Could my monitor be on its way out?

Perhaps or maybe just the backlight warming up initially and stabilising. What model is it and how long have you had it? Maybe don't set it to sleep as well if it's causing a problem?

It's a 2232BW, about 3 -4 years old. It's more of a nuisance than a problem.

I like your idea about the backlight. Is this fixable, or even worth fixing? Could this be an opportunity rather than a problem :D ? I hope to get my hands on a friends monitor so I can (hopefully) eliminate everything else.

Thanks for the reply

probably not worth fixing it compared with the cost of a replacement screen. try another monitor and see if it does it, but i suspect it's just taking a little time to warm up the CCFL unit. ive seen that even on new models where at low luminance settings there is a shimmer across the screen. it;s often eliminated at a higher brightness (or at least not visible) and so in your case maybe just disappears once the CCFL's have warmed up to a higher luminance. if it's particularly bothersome just stop the screen going to sleep, that way they stay on and warm :)
