Hey, getting a very annoying problem at the moment. After doing a fresh install of windows last week, and re-installing sky player I am getting terrible screen tearing. I watch at least two films a night on it so its really quite an annoyance for me!

It doesn't happen using iplayer, or any other form of online videos. Just in sky player, its constantly there. Especially so when theres anything more than moderate movement on screen. I've tried mucking around with some settings in the Catalyst Control Centre, such as having v-sync always on, but have had no luck sorting the problem. I've also re-installed different driver versions with no such luck. Really miffed, as I had no such problems before the fresh install.

If anyone has got any ideas that would be much appreciated.

Cheers, borgia.

Have you tried messing with the flash settings specific to the Sky player? Right click in any video and go to Properties. There are options there to increase the buffer size etc, see if that helps your problem.

Erm, it uses something called Microsoft Silverlight. When I right click in a video thats what comes up, and theres not settings in there to mess about with. Cheers though.

Are you using Windows XP?
Tearing seems to be a common problem with Silverlight, a quick google brought back several threads & possible solutions. Cheers :)

Nah, windows vista sp2. Yeah, I have been searching google for the past few days before posting a topic on here. I didn't find any solutions see.

I thought tearing was caused by framerate higher than your refresh rate, i know this is true in 3d applications but unsure how it would effect video.

vsync caps the framerate to your refresh rate to stop tearing. Again true in 3d apps.

Probably irrelevant info and you probably knew this, and has nothing to do with 2d video? but thought i'd post all i know of tearing :)

So what your saying is that what I'm experiencing isn't tearing? What the proper term then? My google searches might throw up some more useful results then!

explain a bit more please?

so a monitor with a refresh rate of 60mhz should be limited to 60fps in 3d apps? or am i not getting it?

besides if its only in sky player n nothing else its more likely something software related, OP have you checked skyplayer webby for known issues/workarounds?

Yeah I have mate, can't find anything! I'm considering re-installing windows again at this rate. So frustrating!
