Thief 3 - Superb game.... Apart from.... that level. *Shudders*. Scariest part of PC gaming imho.

*shudders again*

I love that level, and I've just recently played through it again  :D

Another shout for FEAR, and Extraction Point. Though I think the expansion's a little too short, it has definitely left me wanting more :D

suggestions:
Far Cry

Quake 4
Doom 3
FEAR
Oblivion
Dawn of War
Max Payne 1+2
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
Hitman: Blood Money
C&C Decades
Dawn of War + Expansions
Company of Heros
Rome: Total War
Medieval 2: Total War
condemned
GTA: S.A
Deus Ex
Mafia
Knights of the Old Republic I + II
COH

Out of the games you mention, FarCry and FEAR are must-haves. So is Oblivion if you can see past its faults. Doom3 is very under-rated. Quake4 has an OK single player game and awesome on-line deathmatch. Rome: Total War is very over-rated, IMO. Deus Ex is maybe the greatest game of all time on the PC, but remember it's a few years old now so you'll have to see past the dated graphics. Max Payne 1 is another I think is over-rated - never played the 2nd one. Can't stand the GTA games personally, but you might love it.

If you own a controller then Pro Evolution Soccer 6 is a must even if football isn't your favourite style of game. We have a league going at the moment as well.

If you own a steering wheel/pedals then go for either Race - The WTCC Game or GTR2 (GTR2 being the less demanding slightly) but with less online racers i think. Not sure which one is cheaper, but they are made by the same developer so they are very similar anyway. :)

For RTS, it has to be Company Of Heroes. What an absolute outstanding game. I wont get carried away with all the details, but ask anyone on these forums and they'll recommend it. There is also Medieval II, but that is a very unique style of RTS, with you having command of other aspects such as your armies and fortifications etc. To be fair, learning the ropes takes lots of time but should you get into it, i've heard it is very good.

Not much on the racing scene at the moment apart from Need For Speed Carbon. If you played Most Wanted then you will have mixed opinions of this, but if you haven't i'm sure you will enjoy it, as compared to the underground series, it is somewhat very different. I personally prefered the daytime aspect and cars of MW, but the campaign is more rewarding imo in carbon.

Third person shooters would be Tomb Raider Legends or Silent Hill 3. Both offer great single player features and challenges. Silent Hill is still scary when you play at night or with headphones on. Get Doom 3 as well if you like that type of scary stuff. :D
