script me up baby!!

Don't make us break out the pitchforks.

I only ever wanted to get a system setup in a couple of hours, move into a cupboard and leave it for years.

Freenas would have been super but was a pain to get sabnzbd working. Although it worked the daemon script wouldn't. Maybe I shouldn't worry about this and just start it manually, after all its going to be left for months on end anyway so a startup script isn't really needed anyway.

ok tried arch linux on me home server and all is working!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why oh why didnt i try arch linux first :p it just works :)

Whenever I try get away from arch, which ever distro i choose never ends up making sense to me. Ubuntu seems to have the ability to install programs in 3-4 different places, I dunno maybe its me....

at least with arch most configing is done through /etc/rc.conf, thats where u add daemons and stuff. It just makes sense to me, hehe.

Well atleast its all working!! Best stick to what I know from now on!

You will end up with
/destination/prisonbreak/
containing only episodes 4 5 and 6

no?

cp -r is copy, but recursively so it includes sub-directories - it doesn't delete any sub-dirs in the target just for the hell of it :p

Your brother was right when he said the above was a load of dingo's dong dingies or whatever it was :D

Hi OP,

Since you are getting a lot of confusing advice here... And even I am getting confused I've done quite a lot of BASH scripting under various distros... I would buy yourself a copy of "Linux in a Nutshell" (O'Reilly). GNU/Linux isn't like Windows where everything is spoon fed to you!! Learning how to use the Linux shell will be very useful to you and one day it might be essential!! :D

Also changing distributions because the docs aren't as good is pretty pointless... The community support for Ubuntu is pretty good in my experience (if you ask questions on their forums). OK busted I'm an Ubuntu fanboiii!! Mind you installing from source on Ubuntu = nightmare

I never changed O/S I have used Arch for a couple of years now, tried ubuntu server as everyone said it was easy. To it isn't, went back To arch and got everything workjing in 30 mins :)

Lesson learnt is, don't lisen to people all the time :p

i'll check out the book, my bash skills got a lot better whenh i switched to arch but can always learn more! :p
