Scriptwriting?

Just wondering, does anyone have any idea how to get into scriptwriting? For example, for TV shows and stuff (I'm not talking Hollywood here). I'm just wondering, because I'm a pretty good writer (if I do say so myself...) and at times, I'm really creative, and scriptwriting is something I've always fancied doing.

I know it's not an instant thing, but I'd appreciate it if someone could point me towards some helpful information on the subject...I've had a look on the BBC's website, but didn't see anything useful there. Of course, there might be something I've missed, I didn't search for too long.

Anyway, I'd really like to find out more about getting into scriptwriting, so please help me out! :)

Thanks
tTz

Little book called "Teach yourself screenwriting".

Excellent, thorough and I've used it myself with excellent results :)

Here

Covers pretty much everything - from generating a story, plots, actually laying out and writing a script correctly as well as proposing it to parties and so on :)

Yeah, the layout part was worrying me slightly, since I usually write stories. I've read a couple of plays though, and was going to base scripts on that kind of style, but thanks for the link, I'll definitely consider it. :)

A quick perusal of the BBC website would indicate that you can send scripts here:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/writersroom/writing/submissions.shtml

and they will look them over and give feedback.

I feel slightly stupid that I didn't notice that, but thanks. Bookmarked and shall be perused thoroughly. :p

Don't worry, I only knew because I remembered the adverts on TV :p

Heh, I knew there had been adverts, but I couldn't for the life of me remember any of the information from the adverts. :p

That site's really helpful, they've got examples of proper BBC scripts on there. That'll definitely help with the layout. They're written with a bit more detail than I expected. For some reason, I thought it would be bad form to give really specific instructions about camera movements etc, but if it's good enough for the BBC...;)

hopefully you be a 6ft blonde with huge knockers should help get a cough in the door.If you havent spent much time looking into it i wouldnt bother cause theres probably millions like you who think they can write but prove me wrong i hope i see something of yours in the future on the box.

Probably, but how many of those millions ever actually take steps to make a living from their writing? Having said that, living off my writings isn't my aim, I'd just be doing it to see if I could, to be honest. Maybe not the most lofty of reasons, but what the hell...I always moan that there's nothing decent on TV, so this could be my chance to raise the tone a little. :p

often the best motivation is negitive down puttings from no doing peoples .I highly regard people who take a gamble and at least have a go at something they really want to do.You never know where it will get you.
